    About the role:

    We are looking for a General Manager, Integrated Operations Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC), who will play a key leadership role in optimizing business value, while prioritizing safety through the integration of the planning and decision-making functions carried out in key operational areas of the business. This person will also support operations to achieve or exceed 'the plan' through transparent monitoring and initiation of business improvement opportunities.

    This role provides networking opportunities directly related to the key accountability of oversight of the entire value chain at IOC, which includes an open pit mine, processing plants, rail, and port facilities and is an incredible development opportunity for someone seeking broader business exposure who is interested in continuing to eventually progress to an executive level role.

    Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer IOC, you'll be accountable for:

    • Focusing on execution and delivery, using all inputs from across the business, to deliver safe tonnes for our customers within specification
    • Exercising decision rights using information available from across the value chain to prioritize and sequence work to deliver the best outcome for IOC
    • Delivering the optimized production plans (annual, 10 year etc.) that will support the achievement of immediate business targets while ensuring that longer-term objectives are met
    • Overseeing the overall asset management plan to ensure assets are effectively managed over their entire lifecycle in order to achieve the best balance between productivity, cost, and risk performance as required by the business strategy
    • Using influence to develop strong relationships with peers to drive appropriate behaviours to support the delivery of the plan
    • Participating in community of practice (COP) to share learnings and continue to optimize the functioning of the Operations Centre
    • Developing a clear understanding of customers and value chain to drive returns through understanding of how their role/team impacts our position within the market
    • Navigating internal relationships and maximizing impact by fostering strong peer relationships

    Key functions within team include: Operations Centre, Integrated planning, Asset management (including planning, reliability & assurance), Operational growth & innovation (including automation & control), Process safety, and Performance improvement.

    What You'll Bring

    1. Essential areas of knowledge - The individual will be required to provide problem solving leadership within their own team and with GM peers. A core area of problem solving will be identifying the changes required to local plans to optimise short and medium term value creation including:
    • Changes in quantity or quality of production as required to balance product mix, or balance supply with demand
    • Changes in the allocation of resources as required to support required changes in throughput/quality
    • Changes in priority of BI initiatives (capex and opex) resulting in shifts in the allocation of BI resource, as required to deliver the optimal short/medium term mix of capability improvement across volume, quality and cost

    Solving these problems will require strong analytical capabilities, as well as a thorough understanding of system value drivers, and significant technical expertise. The application of lateral thinking to supply chain issues will be required to drive improvement over time.

    The individual will possess a solid understanding of operational activities at a complex mining operation and have an ability to analyse a situation and then translate that complexity into clear objectives for their team in a simple and engaging way. They will be required to problem solve around the constraints identified by local stakeholders (e.g. mines, rail, ports) and use negotiation and influencing skills to negotiate outcomes that create system value while being operationally sound.

      • Ensure that appropriate processes are in place to acquire, develop, or mobilize talent and that identified talent needs are determined based upon a thorough understanding of the business strategy
    1. Qualifications:
    • Post-secondary education in mining, mechanical or industrial engineering, commercial or related degree; post graduate business studies an advantage
    • Minimum of 15 years experience in an operations, infrastructure, commercial or asset management leadership roles
    • Ability to communicate in both French & English is an asset
    • The ideal candidate would have diverse leadership and industry experience in a variety of operating areas.
