Project and Business Manager


We are seeking a talented Project and Business Manager to join our team and work on managing projects and creating business opportunities to support industry partners in the areas of expertise of the Energy & Power Innovation Centre at Mohawk College.


The Project and Business Manager - EPIC plays a key role in reaching the objectives of the Energy and Power Innovation Centre (EPIC).

The incumbent will lead planning and oversight activities for technically diverse projects; build a robust platform to manage the Centre's resources and provide key support in business development activities such as strategic plan, outreach and dissemination activities, funding proposals and quote preparation.

The role requires close collaboration with the Centre's technical team and external stakeholders to relate industry trends with the technical services provided by the Centre.


As part of the Applied Research (IDEAWORKS) department, EPIC provides expertise and facilities to support Canadian companies with their operational challenges with a particular focus on energy, industrial communications and data systems integration.

The Centre also supports utilities and electrical companies with developing new solutions, as well as training in state-of-the-art facilities.

The Centre has four focus areas including power systems, motors and drives, information systems integration, and cybersecurity; aimed to provide services in such areas to large, Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs), as well as electrical utilities.

Based on the focus areas, the Centre works on industry projects in the electrical, energy, manufacturing, information technology, and food & beverage sectors.

The incumbent will lead project and business development efforts across the four focus areas and industry sectors.


The Project and Business Manager - EPIC will be responsible for all aspects of project management from scope preparation, day-to-day follow-up with team members, successful completion of deliverables according to the planned timelines, and reporting.

The incumbent will have a key role in creating a plan to provide a robust project pipeline considering college's applied research aspects, such as but not limited to, industry trends, funding proposals timelines, EPIC's technical capacity and project throughput, student involvement, and industry partners' requirements.

In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for dissemination activities to promote the outcomes of projects.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties of this position will include, but are not limited to the following:

Project Management
-
Determine and define project scope and objectives in collaboration with the EPIC's General Manager and technical staff.

  • Organize resources needed to develop and deliver projects effectively. Coordinate resources across multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Prepare budget based on scope of work and resource requirements.
  • Track project activities and costs and manage the associated project schedule.
  • Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress.
  • Coordinate technical staff to ensure their activities align with the overall project deliverables and identify/correct issues promptly.
  • Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution
  • Measure project performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Create a robust internal platform to manage Centre resources and documentation for project management and business development purposes.

Business Development Strategy

In collaboration with the General Manager, the incumbent will support the creation and update of the Centre's business development strategy considering the existing technical focus areas, available resources, external stakeholders' feedback, and industry trends.

  • In collaboration with the General Manager, review revenue sources and proposal plan to accommodate the plans and resources for each of the strategic focus areas.
