Indigenous Outreach and Education Advisor


Reporting to the Director, Student Recruitment, the incumbent is responsible to implement, modify and deliver an Indigenous student recruitment plan for all levels of Mohawk College education including full-time postsecondary, apprenticeship, continuing education and preparatory programs.

With a goal to meet enrolment targets and to develop relationships with prospective applicants and key influencers; including parents, teachers, guidance counsellors, community partners and other College staff.

The incumbent has the responsibility to highlight and present the Mohawk experience in a positive way, and as a brand ambassador can impact the overall first impression and reputation of Mohawk College.


Utilizing tools that are developed to describe the college's core business and products including academic programs, the advisor's main objective is to reach out and be an influential resource to primarily attract FNMI students to Mohawk College, maximizing enrolment to all college programs and courses, and enhancing Mohawk's position within the community, in keeping with the mandate and strategic plan of Mohawk College.


This responsibility requires an awareness and sensitivity to the unique cultural differences and needs of Indigenous populations, pre-admission processes through to graduate student needs, with their teachers, counsellors, case workers, guardians/ parents, adult learners, including graduates from other colleges and universities, other non-direct applicants, and community partner agencies as well as members of the community, in keeping with the strategic marketing and academic plans of the college and its partners, all contributing to student success.


Responsibilities:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Recruitment and Liaison Activities

Outreach:


  • The incumbent will identify target groups, make connections, conduct needs assessments and respond to requests for service delivery, to schools, community groups etc. based on their knowledge and resources.

Advising
&
Knowledge Transfer:


  • With prospective students via 1:1, using an advising model, in groups, through social media and presentations, on college programs/options, including facilitated admissions requirements, upgrading, pathways, credit transfer, and pathways to university.

Events:

- coordination and delivery of school/site visits, parent/information nights, conducting campus tours, at community sites, Aboriginal Postsecondary Information Program (APSIP), Ontario College Information Fair, as well as other education and career fairs, and Open House events.

Information Management:


  • Maintaining prospective student and school/site contact profiles and documents to, plan, record and track all visits and events with CRM.

Access & Transition Support -
Identifying barriers to accessing postsecondary education and offering options/choices and resources, that assist prospects in overcoming these barriers, including prospective students, guidance counsellors, teachers, case workers, and parents.

Relationship Building
  • Within the portfolio, to identify needs, to respond to and accommodate all requests, to provide a superior customer service interaction, and to encourage repeat interactions with the College. To make Mohawk a sought after destination.

Marketing and Communications

Multi-Media Presentations
  • Crafting & delivering presentations to promote college programs and services to prospective students, in an accurate and interactive way, using PowerPoint, videos and guests speakers, includes the development of speaking notes, and responding to Q & A sessions.

Strategic Outreach Campaigns:

Knowledge Transfer/Information Sharing:

- with key influencers, informing and clarifying on college programs, admission requirements, band sponsor funding, OSAP, fees, Athletics, supports for students with disabilities, preparatory options, assessments, specialty programs and labs and providing up-to-date resources, materials and information.
