Job Summary:


Markel Canada (part of Markel International) continues to build a pre-eminent specialty commercial insurer serving the needs of Canadian business from coast-to-coast.

Duties and Accountabilities

This position will work as part of our Digital Team, to provide support for various tasks including the following:

  • Assist in analysing competitive landscape and participate in product incubation, business casing and proposal of new digital product offerings
  • Digging deep to understand the most significant problems that face our users and working with our technology partners to develop and test solutions, supported with data
  • Creating and overseeing product roadmaps that address the biggest needs in our business and meaningfully impact our OKRs, while meeting user demands our customers & partners
  • Partnering closely with underwriting in product development including collaborating in areas of market research, design, wordings review, rating, underwriting, testing and the standup of new products
  • Iterate existing digital products while considering CX improvements to drive improved financial results and meeting compliance in a changing environment
  • Work with colleagues and division in other countries to help assess if similar products can be localized
  • Digitize existing product wordings, question sets and rating plans
  • Work with Product line leaders in generating required governance documentation during the introduction of new products
  • Defining, evangelizing, and monitoring metrics that demonstrate product success
  • Coordinating frequent stakeholder meetings to both gather feedback on your products and to share important updates
  • Ensuring the successful rollout, growth, and success of your features, with communications and training to appropriate users/stakeholders across the business
  • Initiating and implementing process improvements for product developments
  • Lead digital UAT product testing on various platforms
Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Professional liability and specialty commercial underwriting experience preferably 5+ years.
  • CIP designation or working towards a CIP is an asset
  • Strong analytical skills and detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong strategic thinking and decisionmaking
  • Research and data analysis; able to selfserve on a majority of requests
  • Technical proficiency: deep understanding different technical approaches and the ability to explain those to leadership and other stakeholders
  • Ability to create cost / benefit analyses for projects, and use the outputs to guide product and feature prioritization
  • Effective and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient project management skills and well organized
  • Ability to inspire and influence teams and leaders at all levels
  • Has a positive mindset and works collaboratively with team members across the organization
