Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Production Manager the
_ _buyer will be working to meet the material needs of production requirements (direct materials) via MRP outputs along with additional information sources and maintain sufficient on hand inventory levels.

This role also ensures the updated accuracy of materials within the plant. This position works closely with the operations team, production scheduler, external suppliers, and global sourcing.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Purchasing/ Inventory Control)

  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain and Production team to deliver all materials on time to meet customer lead time and operational schedule requirements.
  • Collaborate with necessary teams to deliver on cost savings through Efficiency and cost reduction projects
  • Plan, purchase, and expedite components and raw materials for manufacturing departments
  • Procurement of all operational materials, supplies, and in some circumstances contractual services
  • Collaborate with Sourcing to approve new suppliers in accordance with procedures and policies
  • Support Investigations on discrepancies on supply agreements and pricing agreements
  • Support/Lead activities that may be related to new supplier qualifications
  • Lead & coordinate onsite supplier meetings and deliver presentation where necessary
  • Maintain acceptable inventory levels within the facility
  • Assist in the control and disposition of slow moving/obsolete material
  • Assist in inventory and cycle counts as required
  • Support Quality actions related to Supplier corrective actions
  • Attend planning and cost savings meetings where necessary
  • Learn and Maintain MRP systems
    _(Titan/SAP)_ with accurate and timely information
  • Prepare and maintain vendor forecasts
  • Monitor plant capacity and communicate anticipated constraints/opportunities
  • Analyze and report on business risk with regards to product/processing changes, supply chain disruption and vendor performance
  • Work with centralized purchasing
  • Set up freight and tracking for incoming material as needed
  • Update systems with cycle count
  • Must be willing to cross train in other office functions
  • Must be able to travel outside of province for training
  • Any other duties assigned by your manager

EDUCATION/TRAINING and/or EXPERIENCE:


  • At least 35 years of Procurement experience in a production environment. Work experience should demonstrate a progression of responsibilities and knowledge
  • Knowledge of MRP systems Titan/SAP is an asset
  • Strong analytical skills combined with intermediate knowledge of excel (vlookup, pivot tables, extract and importing data)
  • Team player with the ability to contribute within procurement and on crossfunctional teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude with strong customer service skills
  • Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment
  • Can motivate/ empower others and resolve conflict
  • A basic understanding of manufacturing process improvement techniques including continuous improvement (JEM), SQDCI, TPM
