Health and Safety Coordinator


Reporting To :
Health and Safety Manager


Role Summary:


Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the incumbent focus is on health and safety risk management and incident prevention.

This position requires the incumbent to travel between Arrow facilities in SW Ontario.


Responsibilities:

The Health and Safety Coordinator job duties and responsibilities center around established organizational Health and Safety goals including, but not limited to:

  • Assist with the implementation and on-going administration of Arrow's occupational health and safety program.
  • Promote health and safety awareness among all employees with a focus on injury prevention.
  • Facilitate the operations of workplace Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Aid in investigating and reporting workplace injuries and incidents, including root cause and corrective action initiatives.
  • Investigate workplace hazard reports and safety concerns.
  • Develop safe work procedures, safety reports, and maintain appropriate records.
  • Compile and analyze safety statistics for hazard identification and monitoring.
  • Inspect workstations throughout the facility, make recommendations to improve safety and health standards, and undertake appropriate action where unsafe conditions have been identified or recommended by the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Develop courses, prepare materials, coordinate and provide safety training and orientation to employees using a variety of media.
  • Coordinate Health, Safety and Wellness events such as evacuation drills, emergency response drills, etc.
  • Coordinate Industrial Hygiene testing.
  • Coordination of WHMIS, hazardous materials and hazardous waste.
  • Interpret the Workers' Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and make recommendations to achieve and maintain compliance.
  • Assist with WSIB claims management and return to work planning.
  • May on occasion be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:


  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a oneyear Occupational Health and Safety Certificate from an accredited institute.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Workers' Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, WHMIS and any other applicable legislation.

EXPERIENCE:


  • A minimum of 3 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience planning and delivering safety training programs.

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of Workers' Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, Canadian Standards relating to H&S, and other applicable legislation.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, steel part processing, etc., is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Labour and its functions.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Diplomacy using judgment and tact when dealing with culturally sensitive issues.
  • Independence act with immediacy to respond to issues as they arise in the plant and provide advice to administrators regarding information to be collected and steps to take.

  • Sufficient communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with all employee groups.
  • Time Management ability to focus on task and manage priorities and projects effectively.

WORKING CONDITIONS OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Sufficient vision and hearing to perform related job duties.
  • Able to lift up to 18 kg (40 lbs) on an occasional basis and operate related equipment.
  • Able to perform related physical and mental activities.

Salary:
$55,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
