Duration:
Approximately 6 Months

Desirable Skills:

  • Ability to display an increasing acceptance of responsibility in developing knowledge in the Powerline trade:
  • Operate vehicles and equipment transporting materials and supplies
  • Load and unload materials
  • Tool inspection, preparation, and maintenance
  • Set up and take down of equipment
  • Cleanup site and equipment
  • Assist in framing and setting poles
  • Basic data entry and general administrative work
  • Requirement for the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Requirement for lifting and carrying up to 75lbs
  • Ability to work in awkward position for sustained periods of time
  • Travel to various worksites and headquarters as required, to obtain the necessary experience and skills to achieve a powerline apprentice position
  • Other duties as required
  • Can climb in a training environment

Qualifications:


  • High school diploma
  • Meets minimum qualifications for AIT PLT Apprenticeship Entry (Minimum of English 202, Math 203, Science 10 OR a pass mark in all five Canadian General Educational Development (GED) tests)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to qualify for enrollment in the ATCO Electric Powerline Technician Apprenticeship Program.
  • Related field experience would be an asset
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to obtain Class 1 with air endorsement
  • Ability to work at heights on wood poles and steel towers in all weather conditions
  • May require extensive travel
