Job Summary


Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Architecture, the Manager, Enterprise Architecture is responsible for guiding and governing the transformation of enterprise architecture and is focused on defining the technologies and integrations NAV CANADA requires to meet current and future strategic needs.


Working with all members of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) group, the Manager leads conceptual ideation, stakeholder value exploration, along with the evaluation of emerging technologies, and innovative processes and products, with a view to selecting and developing those that are most promising through PoC-driven evaluation.


The Manager works in collaboration with the commercial teams, product management and engineering and service delivery SMEs to ensure that new technologies display strong value propositions and are scalable, manageable, and consistent with EA standards.

In addition, the incumbent is expected to manage cross industry research and technology development through a network of partners in industry and academia and develop technology roadmaps relevant to NAV CANADA in conjunction with product groups.


The Architecture group is responsible to lead and coordinate all aspects of the Enterprise Architecture program, including: (1) solutions and technical architecture, which is focused on developing product and infrastructure architectures that integrate across the portfolio of solutions; (2) cloud, infrastructure and security architecture, which is focused on managing technological risk through the exchange of information between people, systems and things inside and outside the organization and appropriately adopting cloud infrastructure and capability; and (3) data architecture, which is focused on the consistent integration of data across the enterprise.

In this role you will:
Be accountable and responsible for a team of technology professionals working directly and through managers.


Responsibilities include:

  • Directing the daytoday activities by establishing the work unit's strategies, business goals, performance indicators and objectives, priorities, work plans, milestone deliverables, financial and resource plans.
  • Determining the ongoing staff requirements and hiring and/or promoting subordinates to fulfill these needs.
  • Conducting regular performance assessments of all staff and establishing training strategies to target developmental needs.
  • As necessary, conferring discipline which involves all variety of scenarios from verbal to written warnings, suspensions or ultimately dismissal.
Manage delegated portion of the CTO's budget by

  • Determining financial requirements and administering their portion of the budget
  • Monitoring and reporting activity against budgets/business plans and responding to variances as appropriate
  • Determining business/financial efficiencies respecting the utilization of resources
  • Committing corporate funds through the authority to negotiate, conclude and manage professional resources contracts
  • Ensuring the responsible use of all resources and assets for the benefit of NAV CANADA; manage operating and capital expenditures in line with applicable budgets and approvals, and in accordance to stated company and IM objectives and priorities.
  • Exercising independence of action in the delivery of the operational mandate of the work unit by managing high level priorities to ensure that the priorities with the biggest impact on NAV CANADA are addressed. Also, by establishing and authorizing the Enterprise Architecture Standards and governance process for the Technology Organization (TO), including Data Integrations, Application, Cloud, Infrastructure and Security and Data Architecture, ensuring alignment of CTO's Architectural priorities with NAV CANADA's business strategies.
  • Evangelizing the Enterprise Architecture group activity within NAV CANADA to facilitate TO's strategic plan.
  • Contributing to TO Strategic Planning and provide technical thought leadership on all aspects of enterprise technologies to TO and key stakeholders. This may involve working with external entities vendors, other ANSPs, aviation and industry organizations (e.g. CANSO, ICAO, EUROCONTROL etc.) to understand which technologies and services are being evaluated, developed and/or exploited.
