Summer Communications Design Assistant

Location:
Hybrid work out of the Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Head Office (Edmonton). Some travel and field work may be required.


Position Status:
Full time (40 hours per week), Summer Student (May - August)


The Organization

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Create design materials using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Take and process images and organize photo library.
  • Organize branded files and signature resources files.
  • Help conceptualize new design materials.

Skills and Competencies
We are looking for a creative individual that takes initiative and has knowledge of marketing and communication practices.

This position requires a proven level of organization and judgement in order to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.

Commitment to teamwork is required in dealing with colleagues in an everyday working environment.

  • Strong cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • Adaptable and able to switch between multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of digital media.
  • Intermediate to Advanced Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop).
  • Knowledge of and experience with photography.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Student must be returning to school full time in the fall for 2023/2024 term or be a recent graduate (2022/2023 terms).
  • Some postsecondary education in Graphic Design (education in progress).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • 12 years' experience in Communications. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.

Other Requirements

  • Able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, on occasion.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
