- Continuing Teacher
- Continuing Counselling and International Advisor position. Includes working outside the traditional timetable to support international students. Some supervision of field trips and international activities._
- Bachelor of Education (Secondary)
- Master's Degree in Counselling or Psychology or a related discipline with a focus on counselling
- Two years of successful classroom experience at the secondary level
- Two years of successful school counselling experience at the secondary level that includes the provision of counselling, consultation, coordination and education services that promote the intellectual, human, social and career development of students
- Current practical experience dealing with adolescents exhibiting behavioural and/or emotional problems
- Demonstrated successful experience in the classroom and in a schoolcounselling position
Ideally, the successful applicant will possess:
- Ability to support classroom teachers in understanding and planning for the social, emotional and behavioural needs of students in their classes
- Strong communication skills with students, parents and colleagues and ability in group process techniques
- Ability and willingness to act as a resource person for teaching staff
- Demonstrated interest and a strong commitment to the emotional and social development of adolescents
- Demonstrated aptitude for counselling and/or professional counselling experience
- Experience working in a proactive, comprehensive counselling model
- Experience working in a comprehensive model supporting the academic, social and emotional needs of International students
- Strong understanding of current Graduation Programs prescribed by the Ministry of Education
- Strong understanding of transitioning middle years learners to secondary and secondary learners to postsecondary
- Threat Assessment Level 2 training
- Knowledge and understanding of the role a counsellor plays on a Critical Response Team
- Familiarity with community resources and referral processes
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team
- Successful experience with adapting and modifying materials for a diversity of learners
