The Network Specialist supports all Network Operations and Delivery teams, and is focused on leading the new technology introduction, evolve network acceptance, coordinate projects, and lead network upgrades.

You will also be the champion operational readiness and process improvements working closely with Solutions & Architecture, Sustainment and NOC teams.


  • Note:_ this position will support specific clientele where the requirement is to be either at the client's or client authorized sites/premises, or at authorized remote locations with proximity to such sites or premises, primarily in Southern Alberta._

Responsibilities:


  • Support, configure, maintain, and upgrade network devices, including but not limited to firewalls, loadbalancers, switches.
  • Monitor network availability and performance. Review alerts and notifications from monitoring systems and diagnose issues.
  • Perform timely response and technical support to all incidents, requests, outages, and alerts.
  • Analyze technical and operational problems. Work with internal technical teams and/or vendor representatives to resolve problems in a timely fashion.
  • Optimize the network to meet performance, capacity, and security requirements.
  • Recommend, schedule and perform network improvements, upgrades and repairs.
  • Produce network implementation and migration plans. Implement network solutions in the enterprise environment.
  • Develop and maintain the documentation to ensure changing requirements and technologies are captured and communicated.
  • Assist in capacity planning, networking devices procurement and support renewal.
  • Participate in an oncall rotation to provide support for network related issues.
  • Collaborate with customers to advise and transform network and security infrastructure to enhance and optimize performance, stability, availability, and security.
  • Develop and maintain the documentation to ensure changing requirements and technologies are captured and communicated.
  • Provide recommendation, guidance, and oversight to the Network teams in configuration, maintenance, and upgrade activities.
  • Establish standards, thresholds and rules/policies for monitoring and alerting, network availability and performance.
  • Review alerts and notifications from monitoring systems and diagnose issues, where escalated.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to the Network teams to ensure timely response and technical support to all incidents, requests, outages, and alerts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Who You Are


Qualifications:

  • Relevant postsecondary education in related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 4 plus years of experience supporting and monitoring network systems.
  • Significant experience in deploying and troubleshooting large scale, complex enterprise networks.
  • Extensive experience with configuration of security appliances, switches, routers, etc. and variety of network vendors (such as Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, F5, Cisco, etc.).
  • Understanding of core networking protocols including TCP, UDP, DNS, TLS, etc.
  • Proactive and able to identify risks and address potential problems before they occur.
  • Linux and network automation scripting experience are an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability of industry standard process frameworks (ITIL / Six Sigma).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with customers and technical personnel in highstress situations.
  • Relevant industry certifications (JNCIA, CCNA, Network+).
  • Broad experience using a variety of monitoring and ticket management tools.
  • Experience providing remote support using virtual desktop tools.

Key Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English, and French (Bilingual) is considered an asset.
  • Strong foundation of networking concepts, including layer 47 firewalls, IPSec and SSL VPNs, routing, switching and load balancers.
  • Understanding of general IT concepts and technologies including cloud computing, virtualization, server platforms, and security.
  • Good understanding of routing/switching/security/SDWAN products and platforms.
  • Experience with issue tracking and escalation, and sense of urgency.
  • Understanding of Knowledgebase experience.
  • Ability to work independently, multitask in a fastpaced team environment, manage multiple escalated support incidents under tight timelines.
  • Understanding of ITSM Framework is essential, preferably ITIL Methodology V3 and V
