General Accountability:


  • Planning, directing and coordinating the daily activities of streetcar, light rail vehicles (LRV) and/or lowfloor light rail vehicles (LFLRV) carhouses which operate on a 24hours/day, 7days/week basis, and may include directing and coordinating the operating and capital overhaul maintenance for revenue and nonrevenue fleets at an overhaul facility or managing the activities of the Equipment Control Desk. Providing sufficient supply of safe, clean and reliable rail vehicles to the respective transportation department in order to meet daily revenue service or the nonrevenue vehicle requirement associated with maintenance of track, structures or plant.
Overseeing all aspects of maintenance, repairs, servicing, cleaning, preparing and delivery of rail vehicles
Key Job Functions:


  • Plan, direct, and coordinate daily operations and administration for the section and oversee all work performed by employees.
  • Provide sufficient supply of safe, clean and reliable rail vehicles to the respective transportation department in order to meet daily revenue service or the nonrevenue vehicle requirement associated with maintenance of track, structures or plant.
  • Plan, schedule and oversee all aspects of vehicle overhaul and component rebuild programs along with the maintenance, repairs, servicing, cleaning, preparing and delivery of rail vehicles.
  • Plan and oversee the procurement and maintenance of carhouse equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Foster and promote a safe working environment through effective training and leadership practices.
  • Oversee the assigned facility's administration by budgeting for workforce and material requirements, monitoring work methods and procedures and preparing written reports and correspondences concerning facility operation and personnel.
  • Prepare, monitor, and update Capital and Operating budgets, goals, and objectives.
  • Ensure work processes, methods, facilities and other procedures adhere to set guidelines and legislation for compliance and safety standards; ensure documentation and action taken when necessary.
  • Promotes a respectful work and service environment that supports diversity, inclusion, and is free from harassment and discrimination. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of inclusive and accessible policies, programs and/or services for employees and customers in accordance with TTC's commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC's policies.
  • Participate in the TTC customer service Ambassador Program.

Education and Experience:


  • Completion of a postsecondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (Engineering considered an asset) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Experience in a supervisory and/or management capacity in a directly related field, preferable in a unionized environment.
  • Possession of a trade license considered an asset.

Additional Requirements:


  • Extensive knowledge of fleet maintenance management concepts and practices, including such elements as standards and procedures development, program maintenance, project management principles, work scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Specialized knowledge of relevant vehicle maintenance and repair procedures, techniques and associated technology, as well as sound knowledge of related trades and disciplines.
  • Good knowledge of business administration including, budgeting principles and practices, fiscal and human resources policies and legislation.
  • Excellent business judgement supported by superior organizational, analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Highly effective overall communication and interpersonal skills.
