About the Role


This position will have the responsibility for designing and maintaining a data infrastructure system, participating in the implementation of investment systems, and conducting general research and analysis as it relates to the Operations of the Investment Division.

What You'll Do

  • Analyzing the report outputs for accuracy, identifying and resolving issues, including following up with the external data providers. This investment analysis includes projects such as portfolio performance, value at risk, hedging analysis, indices, etc.
  • Operating software packages provided by data vendors to conduct financial market data research.
  • Detecting and implementing solutions to complex data integrity issues with data providers, export and load data into other investment systems, monitoring performance and responding to queries as they arise, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Creating an information repository to house data from a variety of vendors to be used for adhoc research projects by the Investment Division.
  • Supporting, maintaining and creating data feeds, developing new ones and validating the integrity of data as requested.
  • Liaising with data vendors, investment managers, the custodian, consultants, Investment Division staff on investment data matters, on a regular basis through meetings and correspondence.
  • Using the system to create a wide variety of reports. Working with research staff to define requirements for the reports, creating datasets containing the Fund's securities and validating the results produced by the system.
  • Responding to the queries and requests of staff in OPTrust concerning investment information at the overall fund level and its underlying asset class levels.
  • Assisting with systems planning, developing functional specifications, liaising with users and with Information Technology staff.
  • Working with Investment Division personnel and consultants to define the requirements for the portfolio performance measurement system; supporting the smooth operation of the performance system.
  • Developing user acceptance test plans including test strategy, test criteria and test data identification, resource and time estimates; implementing and controlling user acceptance test projects, identifying issues with IT as needed. Monitoring progress and testing the validity of the results.
  • Validating performance measurement (IRR, TWR) and expost risk attribution results for the fund.
  • Participating in the reconciliation process, reviewing monthly reports and ensuring adequate control processes are in place to enable quantification of exposure to various operational risks.
What You Bring

  • 4 years of professional experience in a related field and an undergraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, and/or finance with knowledge of financial markets and portfolio management. CSC and CFA preferred.
  • Understanding of relational database concepts, operations and their use.
  • Experience using database inquiry language, PL/SQL, including scripts and procedures and sound knowledge of Excel and Visual Basic in Excel.
  • A solid understanding of risk management as it relates to investments and asset modeling.
  • Strong project facilitation skills and organization skills to balance workload and set priorities under t
