Mulgrave is one of Canada's leading independent co-educational pre-K - 12 day schools, serving the North Shore of Vancouver. We are an established IB Continuum World School with a reputation for excellence and innovation. We are now seeking applicants for the role of Facilities Assistant to start as soon as possible.

The role of Facilities Assistant is to work with the Facilities Crew and Facilities Manager to maintain order both inside and outside the school building.

Including but not limited to maintenance, construction, custodial and grounds maintenance.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Including but not limited to the following:

  • Disarm the buildings and contact the security monitoring station if necessary
  • Check that room lights and temperatures are in normal working order
  • Direct and maintain a safe and effective traffic flow during student dropoff and pickup, and other events
  • Ensure that all office and common area appliances and HVAC equipment are clean and in normal working order
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the cafeteria before and after students' lunch
  • Attend to emergencies to maintain the health and safety of entrances, offices, foyers, classrooms, theatre, cafeteria, bathrooms, playgrounds, etc.
  • Replace air filters in all air handling units, rooftop units and check for normal working order of fan motors and mixed air dampers in the mechanical rooms
  • Assist the Events team to setup, teardown and cleanup venues for school events and student exams as required
  • Receive and distribute deliveries and assemble new furniture and equipment
  • Replace light bulbs, door locks, hinges and stoppers regularly
  • Repair and relocate furniture, cabinetry, shelving and office equipment
  • Install pictures, bulletin boards, marketing and open house signs, etc.
  • Pickup and return theatre lighting and sound equipment rentals
  • Assist the Facilities Manager to coordinate and supervise tradesmen work
  • Issue fobs, door and cabinet keys and parking tags to staff as required
  • Coordinate the maintenance of the utility vehicles and school buses
  • Help generate PO's to obtain building component parts and maintenance supplies necessary to carryout the ongoing repairs
  • Program the irrigation system timer to water outdoor lawns and garden beds, and manually water indoor plants
  • Interact with the evening cleaning staff to carryout special requests
  • Continually empty all paper and bottle recycling bins in common areas
  • Distribute printing paper to the photocopy stations regularly
  • Assist during emergency evacuation drills
  • Clean and maintain proper working order of roof gutters and downspouts
  • Maintain inventory controls of assets and maintenance supplies
  • Clear snow and deice entrances, sidewalks and stairs during the winter
  • Assist staff, students, parents and tradesmen when help is needed

Qualifications and Requirements:


  • Must be comfortable using powered tools such as: table saws, circular saws, grinders, drills, backpack blowers, etc. in a safe and effective manner
  • Possess good work ethics, reliable and trustworthy
  • Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license with a class 4 being an asset
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at elevated heights and confined spaces
  • Flexible to work weekends and evenings around the requirements of the school
  • Physically fit and ability to lift heavy objects using proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to follow instructions, multitask, and meet deadlines
  • Experience as a handyman or in a skilled trade is desired
  • Knowledge of Google, and basic computer skills
