Who We Are:
Position:
The Youth Outreach Worker (YOW) will work with our youth team to support youth and encourage them to live life better.
This may involve but is not limited to 1:1 support, group facilitation, drop-in programs, school presentations, out-trips, and larger community events.
Our team's emphasis is on prevention and restoration, and our support focuses on youth aged 10 to 24.Responsibilities:
- Connect and partner with Youth Centre staff and volunteers along with community partners to support and empower youth in the Mount Seymour, Blueridge, and Deep Cove area;
- Establish supportive relationships with youth, working with them as needed to encourage their best selves;
- Communicate with Youth Centre Coordinator to support Youth Centre Programs, develop an understanding regarding programming needs, and recruitment, and collaborate with Youth Center staff and volunteers;
- Connect with Youth: The expectation is to go out into our community, facilitating groups and events at the schools and within the community.
utilizing Parkgate Society physical spaces to host groups, create safe and fun virtual spaces, and as well as meet 1 to 1 with youth both physically and virtually;
- Connect with our community: liaise with schools, other youth outreach workers, parents, local healthy authority, RCMP, and other youthrelated professionals in the field, working with them to promote the wellbeing of youth in our community;
- Social Media Competency: Communicate with youth, guardians, and partnering organizations. Must be proficient in using and producing content creation through Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Canva, and other social media platforms;
- Promotion/Recruitment: From encouraging participation in our programs and services to being able to create engaging and intentional social media content on brand with Parkgate Society and Parkgate Youth Services Values;
- Connect with our team: Be an active, participating member of our staff team, attending meetings and planning sessions.
Qualifications:
- At least two years of experience working with youth 10 to 24 years old;
- Amazing people skills and a proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with youth, parents, community partners, coworkers, and volunteers;
- Exceptional organizational skills you keep files tight and know where to find your keys;
- Able to take open and regular feedback and work through client and program goals;
- Exceptional communication and relationshipbuilding skills, able to connect with youth, parents, schools, and outside organizations;
- Previous learning that demonstrates interest in and knowledge of best practices in the field of Child and Youth Care;
- A demonstrated passion for youth and youthrelated issues;
- Familiarity with social media and ability to curate reflective and relevant posts;
- Current First Aid (with CPR), and Foodsafe are all valuable assets; a willingness to get all of the above in the first 90days of employment is required;
- Proof of double vaccination and criminal record check required;
- A valid British Columbia driver's license is an asset but is no required.
