Job purpose:


The Manager, Pricing will lead the pricing team by supporting and managing the various pricing activities involving our retail and wholesale product lines.

You will combine business logic, analysis, and market intelligence to develop and implement price strategies while balancing company requirements for profitability in a competitive landscape.

Key to the role is strategic leadership and tactics employed for gross margin optimization. As a manager, you will be responsible to hire, train, and manage the pricing team.


Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and execution of pricing strategy and best practices to optimize sales and profitability, working with senior management and affected departments.
  • Provide thought leadership on pricing and business practices
  • Supervise the cost, competitive and price analysis (mainly Excel based) used for setting our retail prices.
  • Guide and support the category management team and price analyst in their recommended price reviews using the price strategy and margin guidelines established.
  • Work with our intercompany manufacturing teams and senior management to establish retail and wholesale prices on our Veritas line of products, and other businesstobusiness opportunities.
  • Working crossfunctionally, develop documents and tools to support this work.
  • Working with the price analyst, conduct analysis such as margin patterns at aggregate level. Report observations on change or anomalies to managers and implement corrective action plan
  • Develop guidelines on our competitors and establish an internal network of "price champions" for relevant information from local fields and their challenges
  • Set performance goals and metrics for pricing activities, aligned with performance goals of the company
  • Responsible for internal communication on our retail and wholesale price changes.
  • Communicate with external vendors regarding price policies, cost increases, or competitive issues.
  • Provide strategic reports, key metrics, risks and options to senior management
  • Review and streamline current processes for efficiency.
  • Responsible for establishing schedules for price reviews that meet company and crossfunctional department needs
  • Act as a project manager, managing activities of the group to meet deadlines, streamline current processes, and providing mentoring and development
  • Hire and develop people within the department including:
  • audit of tasks and responsibilities and skill sets,
- assign, and monitor individual objectives and activities based on overall group priorities;
- provide performance and development plan to staff members with useful and timely feedback


Leadership

  • Mentor, coach and develop direct reports
  • Assist employees with setting objectives for continued growth and development
  • Ensure direct reports have the tools and support to be successful

Preferred experience and qualifications

  • Completion of a University Degree in Business Administration or Commerce, or the equivalent of 57 years' experience in pricing field.

Desirable personal attributes

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to challenge the status quo in a confident respectful manner.
  • Ability to approach daily tasks with a continuous improvement attitude.
  • Must have a strong customer focus approach. Customers will be both internal and external including Marketing, Category Management, Veritas and Senior Management.
  • Solid and strong negotiation analytical skills are a must.
  • Must demonstrate strong project management
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to an ever changing situation while meeting demanding deadlines.
  • Must be able to work with large volumes of data
  • Demonstrate an innovative attitude for software / query support to handle volume and frequency of reviews.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively with other departments including purchasing, publications, and product development on schedule for data elements (vendor costs, freight, final prices for publications database etc.).
  • Must be extremely flexible while working quickly and intensely when large swings in foreign exchange occurs and products must be repriced out of normal schedule.
  • High level of concentration and focus required.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, including strong working knowledge of formulas and functions. Must have experience working with large volumes of data.
  • Working knowledge of SQL for working with database an asset
