The role of the Inspector is to respond to reports/complaints, monitor and investigate licensee and registrant activities in order to verify compliance with legislation, regulations, rules, guidelines, policies and procedures, and the conditions of licences and registration.

The Inspector identifies and reports on non-compliance and makes decisions on appropriate course(s) of action; issues tickets/fines in situations where legislation and/or regulations are clear and determination of non-compliance does not require extensive multifaceted investigation; or recommend legal sanctions in more complex situations.


This position will initially focus on conducting horse racing inspections at the two racetracks in BC but is expected to assume responsibility for future inspection activities in other areas of gambling that GPEB regulates.

The inspector will be required to work weekends, early mornings, evenings and/or statutory holidays.

Job Requirements:


  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent (GED) and a diploma, certification or equivalent in a related discipline such as administrative law, investigation and enforcement, or criminology
  • Recent experience (within the last 5 years) in a compliance and enforcement environment planning and conducting inspections, interviews, and investigations. Preference may be given to individuals with recent experience (within the last 5 years) working in a federal, provincial or municipal governmental regulatory environment.
  • Valid FULL BC class 5 driver's license or an equivalent class driver's license from another province or jurisdiction. Use of personal vehicle, with appropriate insurance, on an expense account basis may be required.
Willingness statements

  • Will be required to work weekends, early mornings, evenings and/or statutory holidays.
  • Willingness to travel throughout province. May be required to travel alone, late at night in remote areas of the province, under a variety of road/weather conditions, often without cellular contact. This may involve absences of several days when inspections involve working in outlying areas.
