The OHRI has an opening for a full-time Research Associate in the lab of Dr. Angela Crawley located at the General Campus of The Ottawa Hospital.

The Crawley lab is affiliated with the University of Ottawa Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology and the Center for Infection, Immunity, and Inflammation at the University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA).

Access to the Center for Liver of Eastern Ontario Biobank supports translational research in the Crawley Lab.


Project description and responsibilities:


The Crawley lab is interested in understanding the underlying mechanisms of immune cell dysfunction, specifically CD8+ T-cells and macrophages/Kupffer cells, in chronic liver disease, with a focus on hepatitis C and B virus infections (HCV, HBV) and metabolic/non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD/MAFLD) and the impact on responses to anti-viral treatments, vaccination, immunotherapy, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Research involves work with human specimens through dynamic research collaborations with clinician scientists in infectious diseases and hepatology as well as activities involving murine models of liver disease.


We aim to recruit an energetic, motivated and highly competent individual, with excellent communication skills and organization skills who works well with students and technical staff as well as clinician scientists.

The RA will conduct independent research, assist in overseeing the research activities of graduate students and a technician and contribute significantly to writing papers and research grants.


Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):


  • PhD graduate in a relevant field in immunology
  • Must have a strong background in molecular or cellular immunology, with a proven trackrecord of success in the immunology research.
  • Must be highly motivated
  • Possess excellent communication skills: strong English scientific writing skills are an asset
  • Detailoriented and organized
  • Strong record of scientific accomplishments, including publications in peerreviewed journals and scientific presentations
  • Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask, work accurately and effectively under pressure, meet deadlines, and remain composed in highpressure situations
  • Excellent data management and data visualization skills

Contract Details:

This is a full-time, 2-year contract with the possibility of renewal. This position offers an excellent benefits package and HOOPP pension. Position can start as early as January 2023.


Salary:
Min: $27.964/hr. - Max $37.935/hr (i.e. approx. $53,690-$72,845/yr)
