WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada, the Middle East, Poland, the Philippines, and South Korea.

We have specialized plant and equipment that allows us to install custom dewatering and water treatment systems in various environments including from within tunnels and shafts and from the surface.


WJ Groundwater strives to meet client expectations for water treatment system performance and execute projects on time and on budget.

Your principal function as Water Treatment Project Manager/Engineer is to assist with the design of water treatment systems and act as team leader and the main point of contact for our clients across numerous construction projects.


This role has two key objectives:

  • Assist in the design of and facilitate the development of water treatment systems related to construction dewatering activities.
  • Provide clear and focused leadership on all project functions related to project management, project control, design and engineering management, and construction management to meet the client's overall goals.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Consistently deliver on each project to achieve toptier industry benchmarks for quality, overall project delivery and project financials.
  • Manage water treatment projects that involve multidisciplinary engineering teams, including structural, architectural, building mechanical, process mechanical, I&C, electrical, etc.
  • Support water process design activities, including equipment sizing and selection for water treatment plants, reservoirs, pumping stations and related infrastructure.
  • Provide detailed calculations for water processes.
  • Manage the planning and scheduling of project deliverables and the development of schedules for design and contract administration services.
  • Develop an execution plan that allows work to be completed in logical sequences, monitors design activities, manages interdisciplinary data flow and communication, and manages the introduction of design changes.
  • Proactively resolve performance, scope, cost, and schedule issues.
  • Supervise site activities and closely liaise with our clients, site staff, supervisors, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Maintain a documentary record, to a highquality standard of WJ's contractual activities including the collection, collation and presentation of data.
  • Perform project management and dissemination responsibilities, including drafting regular progress reports and participating in team meetings.
  • Ensure the financial profitability of the assigned project, by measuring the earned value and monitoring the expenditures and workforce requirement.
  • Prepare Method Statements, including working drawings and work procedures.
  • Define the project programme & ensure contractual targets are met.
  • Undertake business development activities for new contracts. This may involve site visits to collect information, discussing our client's requirements, pursuing tenders, and assisting in the preparation of tenders and quotations.
  • Be responsible for own health and safety and prepare Risk Assessments for our activities. Brief, check and audit site staff to ensure safe working practices are being followed.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of engineering and financial status reports to our clients.
  • Consistently deliver on each project to achieve toptier industry benchmarks for quality, overall project delivery and project financials.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A motivated and hardworking individual with good written and communication skills is essential.
  • Comprehensive understanding of water management and hydrogeology, engineering geology or civil engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience within the construction industry managing projects and site staff in a similar environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years of processing design, project management and/or construction experience in water treatment plants, reservoirs, pumping stations and related infrastructure.
  • Consistently deliver on each project to achieve toptier industry benchmarks for quality, overall project delivery and project financials.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (ex. chemical, civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering or other engineering field relevant to water treatment, reservoirs and pumping stations).
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required for travel between Company projects and sites.
  • Proficiency in common desktop packages (i.e. Microsoft suites, AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problemsolving, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts to multidisciplinary teams is essential.
  • Ability to read, analyze and modify technical drawings and prints.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and the ability to work unsupervised
