Health and Safety Coordinator in Saskatchewan

What's involved?

  • Promote and demonstrate a positive safety attitude and abide by the Company's H&S policies and practices
  • Provide support, leadership, coaching and training to local H&S teams
  • Identify H&S cultural and behavioral issues and promote change in safety behaviors
  • Build and foster collaborative relationships and safety culture with project management teams front line supervision, coworkers and subcontractors
  • Develop, maintain and support the Company's commitment to safety, while supporting and developing best practices, continuous improvement and team work
  • Conduct and/or provide direction to field H&S Coordinators in conducting inspections, audits, incident investigations, review site incident investigations, worker orientation, training as well as making recommendations to senior management to eliminate or control future risk
  • Recommend implementation of corrective actions and continuous improvement programs
  • Participate in prejob planning
  • Manage the implementation of the COR audit program in Manitoba and Saskatchewan
  • Travel within Manitoba and Saskatchewan to fulfill job duties

What's required?

  • Postsecondary education in a related field or equivalent combination of postsecondary education, training and work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years health and safety experience including 2 years construction Health and Safety experience.
  • Experience implementing and managing health and safety programs
  • Proficient with MS Office suite of products.
  • NCSO designation or IHSA training certification or equivalent
  • Experience with the COR audit process
  • In depth working knowledge of local Manitoba and Saskatchewan Construction Health & Safety legislation, regulations and standards as well as provincial OH&S/OSHA Acts & Regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing environmental health and safety programs
  • Demonstrated ability to engage management and employees to buyin to upholding and maintaining a safe workplace culture in a nonaggressive manner.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a fastpaced environment
  • Excellent written, interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Effective coaching and mentoring skills
  • A strong motivator of self and others
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence and clear driver's abstract.
  • Willing to travel and be away from home.
  • Valid Canadian open work permit.

What's nice to have?

  • Health and safety experience in both nonunion and unionized work environments
  • Working knowledge of quality standards (ISO , occupational health and safety management system standard or related ISO 9001).
  • Familiar with occupational health and safety management systems such as ISNetworld or similar system.
