We know the importance that food security has on engaging and supporting the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of Mohawk students.

The MSA Food Services team fulfils the diverse food security needs of the College community while ensuring we connect with people through every interaction.


WHAT YOU DO


Reporting to the Food Experience Manager, the Assistant Manager for Restaurant & Hospitality, provides daily operational support to the campus restaurant as well as any internal and external food service event elements.


What Success Looks Like in This Role:
You ensure every interpersonal interaction is a positive experience, engaging and supporting students and team members.

You work alongside the Team Lead and other team members, supporting the food experience that enhances student decisions and support our student driven values.

Best practices will be a focal point of the position in the areas of, customer service and day-to-day business operations.


Primary Accountabilities:


  • Manage the bar portfolio and ensure safe alcohol practices. Constant adherence to all Health & Safety policies to ensure the wellbeing of the team, students and guests.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to student staff, and fulltime employees
  • Contribute to the development of the Student Enhancement program and oversee the execution
  • Oversee the operations of the campus restaurant & any food service support items outside our normal food experience operations (events, special requests and other MSA initiatives)

HOW YOU DO IT

Responsibilities

Operations

  • Oversee the restaurant operations team and the hospitality team
  • Propose student enhancement ideas based on student feedback and oversee the execution
  • Work closely with the Events & Communities team to ensure efficient execution of programming calendar
  • Develop and maintain service standards
  • Respond to all student and guest feedback regarding their experience, and leveraging any criticism to create opportunities for improvements.
  • Provides support to other areas when required.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive menu knowledge to assist students and guests with menu selection, allergy questions and dietary restrictions.
  • Responsible for health and safety, maintenance, and equipment issues to be addressed.
  • Provides financial, business planning and administrative expertise, advice, and support to the Food Experience team, that acts as a consistent sound boarding for future collaborations and programs.

Finance & Administration

  • Process daily deposits and troubleshoot issues when required (i.e., One Card, Paymentech, POS) and initiate controls to address.
  • Manage the float, petty cash, and till floats for the restaurant
  • Responsible for weekly and monthly bar inventory
  • Present recommendation in areas like costsavings, revenue generation, operational efficiencies with broadbased outcomes.
  • Oversee the administration of HR (Human Resources) processes for the restaurant and hospitality team including payroll, scheduling, recruitment and documentation.

What you Need in Education, Experience and Training for your Department:

  • Minimum 3-5 years supervising in a hospitality environment.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of AGCO, Liquor License Act, Ministry of Health, and WSIB compliance.
  • Good knowledge of food, food hygiene and food safety preparation within governmental guidelines.
  • Strong employee leadership and knowledge of human resource best practices.
  • Experience motivating, mentoring, and developing postsecondary employees.
