We know the importance that food security has on engaging and supporting the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of Mohawk students.

The MSA Food Experience team's mission is to offer an inclusive experience focused on affordability, nutrition and accessibility so that students are fueled for success.


WHAT YOU DO


Reporting to the Manager, Food Experience the Assistant Manager, Culinary & Food Experience provides leadership and support in all of the MSA food service operations.

You will lead a team of full time and student staff, ensuring values-based service excellence, utilizing an intentional diverse menu that best supports the food security of Mohawk students.


What Success Looks Like in This Role:

You are energized by creatively designing sustainable food options, while understanding diverse student needs, from transactional to transformative, on a consistent basis.

You ensure every interpersonal interaction is a positive experience, engaging and supporting students, while understanding and supporting the broader scope and opportunities of the MSA.


Primary Accountabilities:


  • Plans and executes a food program that support the student life cycle.
  • Leads a food experience team of fulltime and student staff with a focus on mentoring and leadership development that ensures student staff play an integral role in the planning and execution of the food experience operation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to provide studentfocused offerings aligned to the strategic plan.
  • Provides financial and operational expertise, advice, and support in establishing an accountable and sustainable food experience model.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Hire, mentor, manage and develop Heart of House team members
  • Provides employees with ongoing feedback and establishes roadmap to achieving personal and team successes.
  • Celebrate Personal and Team success.
  • Fosters and promotes a collaborate and harmonious working environment which will be conducive to maximum employee morale, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Participate and actively engage in MSA committees.

Food Experience Operation
Lead the day-to-day service expectations within multiple Food Service outlets including:

  • The supervision of a full-service restaurant as well as quick-service outlets.
  • Delegation of prep, production, scheduling, and assignments.
  • Menu development that is thoughtful and in consideration of student needs and feedback
  • Ensuring valuebased Service Excellence and quality standards.
  • Managing budget and forecasted sales expectations, ensuring food costing formulas are current and within budgetary guidelines.
  • Purchasing and managing all food services inventory through sustainable practices, including waste management.

Health & Safety

  • Ensures H&S compliance with operational standards, organizational policies, federal, provincial, and municipal laws in accordance with Public Health.
  • Ensure risk management and preventative measures are in place.
  • Ensures Food Services maintenance and equipment issues are addressed.

What you Need in Education, Experience and Training for your Department:

  • Demonstrated ability to guide the mentoring process from onboarding to achievement
  • Minimum 3 years' culinary experience overseeing a multiunit operation
  • Experience working with both Quick-Service Restaurants and Full-Service Restaurants
  • Basic & Advanced Food Safety Training
  • Exceptional knowledge of Public Health guidelines.
  • Understanding and experience with various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building a diverse menu that considers a high volume of dietary restrictions and allergies
