SOAHAC provides services to Indigenous people including those who live on and off reserve, status, non-status, Inuit, and Métis within the Southwest, Waterloo-Wellington and Erie St Clair regions.

SOAHAC has a mandate of ensuring that health services are accessible, of high quality, and are culturally appropriate. It is SOAHAC's objective to build health care capacity within Indigenous communities.


_Requirements_

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., community development, social planning), plus progressively responsible related experience or equivalent.
  • Proven skill/abilities in Two-Eyed Seeing to foster healthy relationship building, community consultation and facilitation, strategic planning, change management, collaboration, negotiation, diplomacy, public speaking, public relations, and demonstrating accountability.
  • Creative and innovative thinking with demonstrated record of success in planning and managing strategic and operational projects from inception to completion.
  • Demonstrate through professional and personal experiences the principles of equity and the development of practices and policies grounded in Indigenous knowledge/perspectives.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, related legislation, and the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Advocacy and Advisory Circle governance model.
  • Analytical, problem solving, research, and continuous improvement skills to manage activities of staff, partners, and community stakeholders; analyze diverse and complex community, political, socioeconomic factors to advise on strategies and planning processes; and plan and develop objectives, goals, and priorities.
  • Proof of successful authoring of funding proposals; and ability to draft and write reports, communications, media releases and promotional materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Travel to various locations within Waterloo Region.
  • Valid Ontario "G" Driver's license; personal auto insurance and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Willingness to participate in Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, teachings and ceremonies.
  • Clean and current police check as a condition of employment.
  • Up to date immunizations and records.

Responsibilities:


  • Work with community partners, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Advocacy and Advisory Circle members, and other community stakeholders as an effective team member.
  • Advance priorities and balance objectives in a political/community environment while maintaining positive and professional working relationships and partnerships; respond helpfully to and facilitate differences of opinion, complaints, and requests.
  • Take a broad view of issues, events, and activities and understand and problemsolve their longerterm impacts and wider implications.
  • Read and interpret policies, procedures, statistical information, contracts, proposals, and reports.
  • Prioritize new learning and facilitate knowledgesharing events.
  • Present proposals, reports, and workshops.
  • Demonstrate computer skills, with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Adjust hours to include evenings and weekends to accommodate stakeholder schedule.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity in all interactions and correspondence.
