This role is a hybrid work arrangement. Work schedule to be discussed with Hiring Manager according to the guidelines defined by the department.

Your role


Reporting to the Senior Director, Security & Resiliency, as Director, Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, you will be responsible for ensuring the continuity of our business and the successful and timely recovery to business as usual in the event of a disruption.

You develop, implement and maintain organization-wide business continuity and disaster recovery programs. You coordinate the response to emergencies and crises.

You provide direction and guidance to the Senior Advisor, Business Continuity, Senior Advisor and Advisor, Disaster Recovery and Junior Specialist.

Please note that is a 13 months temporary position.


Your main responsibilities:

  • Leads, oversees and approves the development, management and implementation of business continuity and disaster recovery procedures, and standards across CBC/Radio-Canada, in collaboration with relevant operations managers and presents to senior leadership teams, as needed.
  • Leads Emergency Operations Teams and becomes a single point of contact for the organisation in an emergency/crisis situation. Clearly and regularly communicates evolving situations to leadership and key stakeholders.
  • Regularly conducts complex risk assessment and contingency planning for all operations.
  • Conducts after action reviews after substantial disruptions; decisions may influence setting precedents.
  • Leads business continuity and emergency/crisis management training exercises.
  • Provides all related support to large key business departments ie: News, Production & Resources and pancorporation activities and events (Olympics, major world events, etc.)
  • Responsible for developing and implementing multiyear, crosscorporation business continuity and disaster recovery programs; ensures alignment with business priorities and leads a team of professionals to deliver on these priorities. These programs include the development of operational plans as well as training and testing programs to ensure readiness and resilience.
  • Collaborates with internal and external audit groups to establish timelines for field work on specific areas to audit.
  • Acts as liaison with internal and external stakeholders in support of corporate initiatives and projects (e.g., North American Broadcasters Association (NABA), Emergency Continuity Security Team (ECST),
  • Advises all departments including programming/production units, T&I and nonmedia departments; supporting operational requirements, regular programming and major ad hoc events.
  • Oversees riskbased evaluations requiring the identification and analysis of multiple ambiguous factors and taking into consideration competing business priorities.
  • Advises and supports senior management during times of crisis; plays a leadership role in managing CBC/Radio-Canada's response to incidents, emergency and crisis situations (major outages, pandemics, etc.).
