Health Insurance Officer*
Start Date: As Soon As Possible

Salary Range:
$46,694.91 to $63,540.75


Location: 7 Fultz Campus and/or remotely, as required

Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours/week)


Reporting to the Assistant Registrar, Student Records and Registration, the Health Insurance Officer is responsible for the coordination and administration of MITT's student health insurance plan, including student enrolment in the plan, response to inquiries, student support and crisis management, invoicing and reporting, continuous improvement initiatives, and vendor relations.

The incumbent will also provide general support to the Student Records and Registration team at peak times, for example registration and convocation activities.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Using the insurerprovided system to enroll qualifying international students in the health insurance plan and updating student information with the insurer as needed.
  • Validating and processing insurance plan 'optout' and 'change of coverage' requests; advising students on the process to obtain required documents from Manitoba Health for optouts.
  • Preparing and disseminating cyclical student health insurance information.
  • Preparing and presenting health insurance information to students, for example at orientation.
  • Leading and coordinating crisis management between MITT and the insurance provider, as needed.
  • Reviewing and validating insurance reports and data submissions; trouble shoot any problems that may arise.
  • Receiving and validating invoices from the insurance provider_, _verifying appropriate accounting for lateenrolments and cancelled policies.
  • Calculating insurance coverage dates and fees for all international students.
  • Coordinating as needed with the insurance provider and Manitoba Health on individual student concerns and/or for the purpose of continuous improvement of services for students.
  • Coordinating cyclical insurance plan reviews and future developments, including the coordination of MITT stakeholder information for RFI or RFPs, as needed.
  • Representing MITT's health insurance plan and the Student Records and Registration department at meetings or on committees, as required.
  • Providing support as needed for seasonal activities, such as registration, orientation and graduation activities, and convocation, and open house events.

Required Qualifications and Experience*:

  • A combination of related education and experience may be considered._
  • College/university diploma or degree in a related field, such as business administration, the social sciences/humanities, or adult education.
  • Two years of related work experience, preferably in a postsecondary administrative environment.
  • Experience providing high level customer service to a diverse clientele in an office, service or educational setting.
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Experience with program or plan administration, preferably in a postsecondary or health environment.
  • Proficient in the use of systems such as an enterprise system, student information system and/or other database systems.
  • Experience working with immigrants, newcomers, and/or international students.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills and exceptional ability to effectively communicate and exchange information.
  • Able to learn and adapt to new technology.
  • Excellent problem solving skills and a demonstrated high level of initiative; takes ownership and accountability through to resolution.
  • Efficient and resourceful in the execution and completion of tasks, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Able to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities; excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Works well alone, and as a part of a team; able to collaborate and participate in consultative decisionmaking processes.
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal skills including crosscultural sensitivity to the needs of immigrants, newcomers and international students.
  • Interact effectively with others in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience, and styles.
