Description
NEC Native Education College opened its doors in 1967 and became British Columbia's largest private
Indigenous College. NEC's purpose is to contribute to an Indigenous, holistic experience that positions the
Indigenous learner to uphold their responsibility and obligations to their family, and Nation of origin as
autonomous Peoples. NEC provides culturally relevant education and training for Indigenous Peoples to
pursue career aspirations and enhance academic goals in alignment with their diverse cultural identities and
traditional knowledge. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, a Facilities Coordinator will work full-time carrying
out the operations of the buildings at NEC.

Position Summary:
This excluded position provides support to the Director of Facilities in overseeing maintaining and operating
the building's systems and equipment. This post will provide administrative support to various projects related
to facilities, as well as ensure day to day operations are maintained.

Main Responsibilities:
Leading by the values of the longhouse with humility.
Create a welcoming environment for all students, staff, and guests of NEC.
Provide maintenance support and/or cleaning in all NEC buildings
Provide training to new staff in cleaning and/or maintenance tasks
Perform daily, weekly, seasonal cleaning, maintenance, facility, and equipment checks based on

schedule or by request.
Schedule and plan facility rentals, administer agreements, maintain logs and tracking for

communication to all relevant parties.
Ordering of supplies necessary within budget limits.
Maintain inventory and storage in an organized, secure, clean, accessible fashion
Evaluate equipment, conduct light repairs or maintenance, or make recommendations to repair, or

replace.
Oversee the work and/ scheduling of contractors,
Ensure janitorial, maintenance, landscaping equipment and tools are properly maintained, cleaned,

stored, and secured.
Lock or unlock buildings and set alarm to secure building daily or as required.
Assist in other duties within the Longhouse as required


Qualifications:
Building Services Worker Certificate and at least 2 years proven experience working in facilities
maintenance, or a combination of skills and experience will be considered

Strong oral and written communication skills, computer use, and familiarity with office procedures are
required.

Ability to use computer programs like Microsoft word, spreadsheets and other related software
Experience working in First Nations organization with strong cultural sensitivity.
First Nations, Inuit or Metis ancestry preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively and efficiently, with a high degree of

tact and professionalism
Reliable and able to consistently conduct physical work to push, pull, lift +/- 50lbs

details of which may preclude finalizing an offer of employment. The successful individual will need to be
