Your opportunity:
The Department of Surgery is a strong network of faculty and learners, and traverses six fully affiliated hospitals and an expanding number of community-affiliated hospitals.
We have an extremely large fellowship program which sees approximately 200 fellows from 15 countries coming each year to learn with our surgeons.
As a Finance Administrator, you will collaborate with the Business Manager to support financial functions pertaining to the operating accounts, research grants, awards and student fellowships, while ensuring adherence with university and funding agency guidelines and policies.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Processing accounts payable and receivable according to the University Guide to Financial Management
- Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on trust accounts and funding accounts for grants and contracts
- Monitoring, recording, reporting and reconciling on funding accounts for research agreements and verifying that research accounts are processed according to sponsor and/or granting agency guidelines
- Provide research administration support by informing the Principal Investigator of concerns/setbacks, ensuring resolution of accounting issues, and keeping uptodate on relevant University and sponsor policies/trends
- Support client relations activities by responding to enquiries, resolving minor complaints, and facilitating purchasing and/or procurement processes
Essential Qualifications:
- Advanced College Diploma (3 years) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum three years related experience preferably in a university administrative setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial policies and procedures
- Demonstrated experience processing a high volume of financial transactions (e.g. invoices, expense reimbursements, purchase orders, journal entries)
- Experience monitoring and reconciling research funding accounts
- Demonstrated knowledge of University financial policies and procedures
- Knowledge of Financial Information System (FIS)
- Highly developed computer skills including proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel Access)
- Excellent communication (written and oral) skills with an ability to exercise good judgment, tact and maintain confidentiality
- Solid organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills
