The purpose of the position is to work collaboratively within the Professional Practice team and program leadership to assist in achieving the clinical orientation and learning needs of newly hired front-line nursing staff and identified nursing champions.

The Clinical Scholar will provide support and indirect supervision to the new nurses' transition into the workforce.

This role will work collaboratively with the Clinical Educators and the Clinical Orientation & Preceptor Leader to implement education initiatives to support practice and competency development needs of the nurses.

This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church St in Penetanguishene, ON.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Act as a mentor and coach for new nursing staff and provide them with appropriate opportunities for developing clinical skills, critical thinking, practice decision making and problemsolving skills.
  • Act as a mentor and coach for identified champion nursing staff and provide them with appropriate opportunities for developing clinical skills, critical thinking, practice decision making and problemsolving skills to empower them to support nursing staff across the organization.
  • Create an environment with open communication and facilitates open communication and staff sharing in decision making and resolution of conflicts maintaining collegiality among all team members.
  • Maintain a strong unit presence to support practice in clinical environments.
  • Supports Clinical Orientation programming, focusing on justintime, at the elbow, bedside support of newly hired nursing staff.
  • Support rollout of Integrated Care Strategy activities, focusing on education related to nursing competency skills and knowledge for newly hired and existing nursing staff.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Current Ontario Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required
  • Specialty Certification with Canadian Nurses Association an asset
  • Formal training specific to physical care nursing competencies and/or education an asset
years current or recent clinical practice experience in acute care required

  • Recent (within the last 3 years) Critical Care and/or Emergency experience preferred
years' experience with preceptorship and/or mentorship preferred

  • Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
  • Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to adapt readily to change
  • Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values (Caring, Respect, Accountability, Innovation), and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills
