Opportunity:


Westcoast is looking for
Permanent Part-time Child Minder to work 20 hrs per week with our Tri-Cities team starting April 2024.

This position will report directly to Programs & Services Manager in Tri-Cities.

The Child Minder provides childcare for children 0 - 6 years while their parents/caregivers are attending group programs.

While the Young Parents Support Workers are conducting parenting groups, the child minder is available to support with the direct care of children under six, including special needs children or infants/toddlers to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth.


Responsibilities:


  • Provides a safe and positive environment for children whose parents are attending groups.
  • Assists in planning, preparing, and carrying out developmentally appropriate programs and activities. Understands appropriate games and activities for children of 0
  • Works in partnership with Young Parents Support Workers and parents, communicating regularly with them about children's behavior and other issues or concerns.
  • Attends to children's physical needs, which may include diapering, toileting, eating and sleeping.
  • Prepares snacks for children that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Tidies playroom during/after childcare times, ensuring toys are clean and disinfected on a regular basis. Keeps program facilities and equipment safe and clean, reporting any repairs and concerns to senior staff.
  • Supports in setting up tables and childminding
  • Able to carry out the physical duties of setting up program space, cleaning, picking up children. Able to carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Conduct other duties as required.

Skills You Bring:


  • One (1) year recent related experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Requirements:


  • Grade 12, plus enrolment in Early Childhood Education Certificate program or completing work experience required for licensing or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • MANDT Certificate required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Desire to be part of a team of diverse individuals.
  • Selfmotivated with great problemsolving skills.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR & AED Level C.
  • Pass a satisfactory Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable persons.
  • A second language is considered an asset.
