Duties and Responsibilities:


The School Administrator is responsible for the efficient administrative operation of the School working collaboratively with the Director, but with mínimal supervision from the Director.

The School Administrator position carries responsibility for a wide variety of tasks including:

financial administration, staff workload balancing and supervision, timetable preparation, academic calendar changes, assisting with admissions and registration, advertising and creating contract instructor contracts, supporting the Director as well as looking after physical space allocations, ensuring equipment needs for the School are addressed, raising or responding to health and safety concerns, organizing events and overseeing communications within the School.

The School Administrator must balance ongoing activities that at times may have competing deadlines.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • The ability to take responsibility, lead a team of staff, ensure work is equitably divided and carried out well.
  • Strong organizational skills are necessary as well as the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Must maintain the ability to work and support the Director and the faculty and staff of the School.
  • Able to work collaboratively with other staff across the Faculty of Public Affairs and with staff across the university.
  • Able to communicate effectively with faculty, students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to fulfill all duties in a conscientious manner.
  • Must possess a clear understanding of administrative and office procedures, financial administration, and health and safety.
  • Strong problemsolving and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • The ability to work under pressure, good judgment, initiative, resourcefulness.

Education and Experience:


The above is normally acquired through:

  • The completion of a university degree. Some business or management training courses would be preferred. Equivalencies will be considered.
  • At least 5 years of university experience including experience with both the administrative and academic parts of the university.
  • Undergraduate and/or Graduate administrator experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
