DESCRIPTION


To assist in delivering KHSC services and programs through the training of volunteers to have the necessary position-specific skills, knowledge, and attributes to be successful in volunteer roles.

Work collaboratively with VS staff to launch active volunteers in roles on a pre-determined timeline.

Develop relationships with departments/clinics/units, design training programs and schedules, ensure new volunteers' competency in roles, and complete follow-up debriefing and recommendations to ensure success and sustainability of roles following their launch.

Working with colleagues, continually seek opportunities to improve processes related to training, position satisfaction and retention of KHSC volunteers, and effective service delivery to customers by volunteers.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:


  • Work collaboratively with the Manager and Coordinator, Volunteer Services, to develop the timeframe for onboarding of new volunteer roles and training of identified volunteers. Communicate to the Coordinator when each volunteer completes the training process and is ready for independent shifts.
  • Communicate directly with the clinical care team and MRP for the volunteer program to develop positionspecific orientation, training resources, and training schedules. Following the successful launch of a program, transfer responsibility for the ongoing support and sustainability of the program to the program MRP.
  • Implement orientation, training, and shadow shifts specific to each volunteer role launched. Sign off on the competency and comfort of each volunteer prior to the Coordinator assigning them an independent shift.
  • Provide coaching to clinical care teams/staff in a position to support volunteers on the volunteer role, limitations, support and engagement of volunteers. Work with clinical care teams/staff to identify and recommend position Mentors.
  • Organize and facilitate followup meetings with the program MRP and volunteers 13 months after launch to ensure training met their needs and there are no outstanding concerns that need to be addressed by the MRP or Volunteer Services.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Community College Diploma required.
  • Diploma in Human Resources, Volunteer Management or Education preferred.
  • 13 years practical or position related experience required.
  • Experience working with volunteers and patients in a hospital environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated person centred care/customer service experience.
  • Experience organizing inperson and virtual training workshops/session using adult learning principles.
  • Excellent listening, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to attend work regularly.
  • Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
