POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties for this position may involve but are not limited to:
- Researches, develops and implements data models and methodologies to analyze and forecast crime trends and staffing requirements etc.
- Provides support, advice and cross functional team training as required.
- Identify innovative ways to solve problems by working with a variety of data sets.
- Perform largescale data analysis to identify root cause.
- Provide strategic advice and guidance on data science to BI Management and YRP senior leadership in support of achieving service priorities.
- Develop tools and methodologies to more efficiently interpret large data sets.
- Maintain an awareness of new technologies within the realm of data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data analysis.
- Produce reports, presentations and data visualizations.
- Prepare project plans, status reports and updates for BI Management.
MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of a four (4) year university degree in data science, computer science, machine learning, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of previous experience in data science, machine learning or artificial intelligence.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High level of expertise in statistical analysis, machine learning, predictive modelling/forecasting and data mining techniques.
- Experience with relational and nonrelational databases Oracle, SQL and NoSQL.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, SQL, NoSQL and experience. automating tasks to clean, integrate and prepare data for analysis.
- Strong knowledge of geospatial analytics using the Esri platform.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with internal members at all ranks, external vendors to explain technical information in easy to understand terms.
- Flexible and innovative approach to complex issues.
- Experience working in a teamoriented collaborative environment.
- Strong written and technical documentation skills.
- Effective organizational and prioritization skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decisionmaking skills.
- Data Scientist certification or Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) designation is an asset.
