The Office of Institutional Research and Analysis provides leadership, advice and support for planning, policy formation and informed decision-making activities at McMaster University.
To fulfill its mission and support the strategic goals of McMaster University, the office provides accurate, timely and high-quality information, data analysis and analytics to the university's various academic and administrative offices and responds to data requests from external agencies.
It supports, advises, and enables senior administration planning and decision making through the provision of performance metrics, benchmarks, projections, simulations, modelling, and effective analyses and insights based on a thorough understanding of McMaster and its external environment.
Employees within Institutional Research and Analysis serve as the liaison with government, the U15 Data Exchange, Council of Ontario Universities, and other external agencies on institutional data and research activities.
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for routine support related to the collection, data entry, verification, and updating of records for projects under direct guidance from IRA staff.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Conduct preliminary, basic analyses and prepare summaries of data under the direction of IRA staff.
- Assist with obtaining data and information from databases (or through the administration of surveys) for presentations and reports.
- Conduct literature and web searches to verify records for accuracy.
- Format, word process, edit, and proofread a variety of documents and materials.
- Assist with other related duties to contribute to the overall operation of the department as requested.
EDUCATION:
An undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related field of study
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous coop or workrelated experience preferred.
- Previous Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) experience is an asset
- Previous Survey Administration Experience an asset
- Good organizational skills and ability to work within timelines
- Selfdirected and motivated worker with ability to work independently or in a team environment
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS:
- Some statistics knowledge and experience with SAS and SQL preferred
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and PowerBI
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, judgement, and people skills
- Attention to detail
