    Position Summary:


For over 35 years, the Discovery Centre has developed a reputation for being Nova Scotia's leader in the delivery of exciting hands-on, minds-on science programming for youth.


The Partnerships Assistant will develop a program that brings Nova Scotian science and technology researchers and innovative companies together to celebrate their scientific accomplishments.

The Assistant will be responsible for developing the format of the event, confirming participation, researching stakeholders both in Canada and if needed beyond Canada, organizing video production, coordinating attendance, and reporting.

The Assistant will work with a committee, the Discovery Awards for Science and Technology, to develop the program and identify key milestones.


The Partnership Assistant have the opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders, complete a major project, work as a member of a team/volunteers, and learn heritage-related information about science and technology innovation in Nova Scotia.

The intern will benefit from the opportunity to improve upon their organizational skills, research, planning, communication, and virtual/video project fulfillment.


Description of Tasks:

The Partnerships Assistant works in the Fundraising department and reports to the Director of Partnerships.

The primary tasks of the position are:

  • Reviewing archives to develop a list of individuals and companies, identifying current contacts for introduction to the project, and organizing/compiling data into a report for the committee
  • Organizing the project task list with assistance of the Discovery Centre team
  • Developing communication pieces promoting the event
  • Coordinating stakeholder participation
  • Successfully coordinating video and virtual requirements (depending on identified needs of stakeholders)
  • Reviewing and responding to feedback from stakeholders
  • Completing an endofproject report on activities and making recommendations for the future event

Qualifications:


Education:
Post-secondary studies in public relations, museum studies, arts, communication, or a related discipline (preferred)

Experience:
Experience in event planning or project management an asset

Language Requirements:
Bilingual (English/French) preferred; fluency in English is required

  • Highly organized
  • Able to work under minimum supervision
  • Willingness to learn
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strong time management

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a virtual environment preferred

Eligibility:
Applicants must qualify for the Student Work Placement Program or Canada Summer Jobs in order to be considered.


Measurable Outcomes:


The Partnerships Assistant will:

  • Successfully work with the team to develop an event
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and maintain communication through the process
  • Prepare a report on the project and future direction for the event
