Knox Presbyterian Church is a vibrant, Christian community church in the heart of Oakville. It is a very busy place Knox Oakville is looking for a Property Manager to oversee the facilities, which are used almost daily for church and community ministries, and for various events and activities.

Overview:_


In this part-time role, reporting to the Operations Cluster Coach, the Property Manager's primary responsibility is to ensure that the church building and the services and spaces we offer are safe and well maintained.

Ensure facilities meet the needs of the employees, church members, volunteers and outside groups that use them.

The Property Manager will ensure that the facility is secure, well cared for and maintained, and that maintenance is carried out appropriately and cost-effectively.

Initially, this will be a one-year contract.


Responsibilities:

  • Overall safety and security of the church building and surrounding grounds
  • Perform light repairs and coordination of contractors, when needed.
  • Ensure anything requiring maintenance is attended to appropriately.
  • Meet with service people who may arrive outside office hours.
  • Available prior to and after Sunday morning worship
  • Available prior to and after Wednesday evening Dinner Church
  • Building inspections and maintenance including:Health & Safety inspections
Regularly inspecting the HVAC system (boiler and colling system); intake window well and keep it cleaned out;
Ensuring all exterior lights are working (nighttime check);
Making sure sprinklers are on at appropriate times and adjust as required;
Ensuring parking lot is clean and tidy;
Pest control

  • Lawn/garden maintenance and snow removal (to supplement contracted snow removal services and the volunteer garden team)
  • Setup and breakdown for meetings, as needed.
  • Coordination of funeral and wedding logistics (parking, flowers, setup/breakdown of reception)
  • Ensuring all exterior doors not in use are locked
  • General room maintenance (e.g., putting away general items that people leave out (tables, chairs, dollies, etc.)
  • Ensuring meetings spaces are ready for Sunday worship
  • Checking needed bathroom stocks, cleaning materials are in supply; order when needed
  • Attending to garbage and recycling removal
  • Be oncall for emergencies which arise outside office hours
  • Be top of the list of security issue/alarm contact people
  • Other items as requested e.g., changing the church sign
  • Schedule yearly opening and closing of the sprinkler system. Adjust the sprinkler times and duration when instructed by the property or gardening teams.
  • Arrange details for parking permits for funerals and weddings
  • The number of part time hours per week required will vary based on the Church activities being coordinated. Hours are during the week or on weekends and may be in continuous blocks of time. Offhours or "callin" work is required such as visiting the church on an evening to lock up after an activity. The hours per week should not exceed 30 hours.
  • Coordination will be required between this new role and work currently performed by the building cluster team.

Qualifications & Skills_

  • 34 years of general maintenance/repair/facilities management experience;
  • Experience with plumbing, electrical work, carpentry would be an asset
  • Able to do work that is physical (e.g., snow removal, moving furniture)
  • Lives locally in order to respond to emergencies effectively and quickly
  • Excellent people skills; able to interact with all who use the church, with service contractors and church staff.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong organizational and problemsolving abilities, able to multitask
  • Someone with initiative, able to work independently, and who understands the importance of a safe, clean, well maintained church facility.
  • A follower of Christ.

Remuneration

  • Range of $25 to $30 per hour depending on education and certification, experience, and knowledge of Knox and its members and adherents; this would include weddings, funerals and other offhours work.
  • Vacation pay per the Ontario ESA minimum of 4% (6% once reach five years of service)
