Summary

Working at Fanshawe College

  • Fanshawe College offers a twoyear diploma program with courses running from September to April. The College is one of the largest providers of Apprenticeship training in the province. The School of Design offers level 1 and level 2 Horticulture Technician Apprenticeship training from January to end of March in winter 2024. Teaching is primarily delivered inperson at our London Campus between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.; however, Apprenticeship students may also visit horticultural sites in London and area, including our own Mac Cuddy Botanic Garden in Strathroy.

Note:

This is a part-time temporary Faculty position (up to 6 hours per week) starting September 6, 2023 and ending December 2023 with the possibility of renewal in winter 2024.

Apprentice teaching will occur starting January 2024 to March 202- The Faculty of Creative Industries is seeking Horticulture experts to teach diploma level courses in September 2023 and apprenticeship level 1 or 2 courses in January 2024.

The apprenticeship curriculum involves some study in The Spriet Family greenhouse related to plant production.- Part-time courses available in level one include:

  • Trade Safety Practices
  • Work and Project Organization
  • Horticulture Principles
  • Environmental Principles: soil, water, stewardship
  • Preconstruction
  • Hardscape: installation and maintenance courses, utilizing practical garden toolbased instruction and Microsoft 365/Office software skills.

  • Familiarity with educational technologies (LMS) are preferred

SPECIFIC

QUALFICATIONS

  • Postsecondary 2year diploma in Horticulture
  • Minimum 5 years' diverse, recent, and relevant industry experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
  • College or university level teaching experience preferred
  • Remains current and demonstrated skills in a variety of horticulture practices
  • Skills in one or more of softscape, hardscape, project management, safety, soils, water, conservation, greenhouse, or horticultural trends and construction practices are an asset
  • Has networking relationships with industry contacts
  • Practices sustainable and environmental practices within horticulture
