JOB SUMMARY
Ensures Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) systems comply with company policies and procedures. Implements and support OHS programs and work towards continual improvement.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES


Health & Safety:


  • Ensures all safety policies, procedures and processes are in place and followed
  • Reports all safety incidents and hazards promptly

Technical / Function-Specific:


  • Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and update Toro Aluminum's Manufacturing health and safety policies, procedures, and programs (HSE Management System)
  • Develop annual health and safety plans for the company based on a full review of health and safetyrelated needs (assessment of hazards, analysis of database, audits, changing legislation and best practices)
  • Review HSE legislation, amendments, and best practices to optimize occupational health and safety programs.
  • Provide all levels of the company with advice related to health and safety matters, legislative requirements, and best practices in the field.
  • Assist in representing management in matters of health and safety with the government, health and safety associations and other outside agencies and organizations.
  • Provide management with reports on proactive and reactive metrics and KPIs.
  • Coordinate and/or provide guidance and direction to occupational health and safety personnel.
  • Support third party worker's compensation, claims management, and return to work consultants.
  • Investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively.
  • Ensure that work refusals are properly investigated and that any necessary corrections to the work processes are implemented and documented.
- ensure safety orientation and training for all new employees, existing employees and visitors is coordinated, up to date and effective.

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a manufacturing HSE training matrix.
  • Lead an annual HSE program audit to ensure the effectiveness of HSE programs.
  • Develop and manage internal HSE audits of the company, including risk assessments, at varying levels, and act as a trainer/advisor to internal auditors.
  • Coordinate HSE Advisors so all Toro Group of Companies are supported and provided the advisement required to address all HSE concerns/issues.
  • Support and promote safety department initiatives.
  • Act as a resource to support and advise the Joint Health and Safety Committees, assisting and providing information and responses on behalf of the company.
  • Prepare and manage the HSE manufacturing budget.
  • Ensure the documentation and retention of all HSErelated records for the prescribed time limits.
  • Perform other related duties as required

Internal / External Customer Service:


  • Works closely with all plant personnel to ensure safety standards and protocols are being implemented and audited
  • Engages and communicates with all key stakeholders on a daily basis
  • Delivers a high quality, responsive service to ensure health and safety actions are promptly addressed

Administration:


  • Produces high standard written communications and reports
  • Maintains a catalogue of health and safety best practice material and Health and safety documentation, reports, incident/accident logs, etc

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY OPERATE IN THE ROLE

Education:


  • Minimum postsecondary diploma/degree in Occupational Health & Safety or Industrial Hygiene
  • CRSP certification or working towards designation.
  • ISO Knowledge/certification an asset
Experience

  • 25 years of experience in a management role.
  • Experience working with/auditing documented management systems (OHSAS 18001, ISO 45000, ISO 14000)
  • Disability case management and/or WSIB claims management experience.
  • Environmental management experience
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles / 5S an asset
  • Strong Core competencies are required: critical thinking, risk management, problem solving, planning & organizing, negotiation and leadership.
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTE THE ABOVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and other related legislation/standards.
