Job Summary:

The Greenhouse Lead Hand will ensure crop activities are performed as needed to ensure plants finish on time to Willowbrook Nurseries specifications.

Within the assigned section he/she will prepare soil; plant bulbs, seeds and cuttings; graft and bud plants; and transplant seedlings and rooted cuttings while also coach, mentor, and communicate with staff to properly execute daily tasks.

He/she will work under the direction of the Head Grower to fulfill these responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

Direct a small team of greenhouse workers to perform crop care, crop movement activities and perennial shipping requirements under the direction of the Head Grower
Run potting lines as required (January
April)
Performs other duties as assigned.
Participate in documenting workflows, processes, procedures
Explain and enforce safety regulations and policies
Identify plants as well as problems such as diseases, weeds, and insect pests and report issues to the Head grower and Production manager
Work closely with the Head Grower to ensure products are grown according to the spec, and following the predetermined shipping schedule

Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year's greenhouse experience or 1 year greenhouse experience
Grower Pesticide Safety Certification (or willing to obtain)

Skills & Competencies:

Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to work independently as required;
Good communication skills;
Team attitude and willingness to seek guidance and collaborate to solve problems on a daily basis;
Able to work in a professional and cooperative manner with coworkers and management;
General knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook);
Flexibility to work additional hours as required.

Working Conditions:

Ability to stand 8+ hours per day;
Ability to lift to 50 lbs. occasionally;
Ability to push lbs. frequently;
Working in a cool/ warm, humid indoor environment with moderate noise level and around moving machinery.
The job involves considerable walking, standing for extended periods, lifting and bending throughout the day.
