Treasury Board and Finance - Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) is responsible for the collection of revenue and the administration of Alberta's tax, revenue and related benefit programs.

The focus of our organization is to ensure a fair, efficient and effective provincial tax and revenue system. Our organization offers a balance between work and your home life and provides options for flexible work arrangements.


Business Solutions within TRA provides a diverse scope of services to the Branch and to Alberta Government Ministries, in the support of Collections and Recoveries activities.

The Business Services teams within Business Solution perform activities such as management of contracts with private collection agencies; management of CRA's Refund Set-Off program, and product planning and implementation of enhanced data and technology strategies for the branch.

Role Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Team Lead, the Collections Assessor supports the delivery of collection services to Advanced Education in the recovery of overdue defaulted Alberta Student Funding debts.

The responsibility of the role includes and will not be limited to:

  • addressing incoming requests for interest and/or payment deferral due to hardship situations.
- working with client ministries in the review of account information and offer recommendations.
- working with Administrators when dealing with Bankruptcy and Consumer Proposal orders and credit counsellors on Orderly Payment of Debt
- processing revenue in a timely/accurate manner to ensure account balances are current
- managing accounts with Canada Revenue Agency to minimize overpayment situations


Qualifications:


  • A High School Diploma and three years' related experience working in business administration and/or a finance environment with a focus on customer service is required. Excellent computer skills including full working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams is essential. Experience working in a collections environment and managing client portfolios is preferred.

Assets include:


  • Working knowledge of collections regulations and practices
  • Knowledge of accounting principles
  • Knowledge of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act
  • Postsecondary education in office administration
  • Experience working in a public sector environment (e.g. Government of Alberta)

Equivalency:


  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
