- Applies principles of carbonate sedimentology, sequence stratigraphy and diagenesis to interpret and map sequence boundaries in support of project goals to better understand fluid flow pathways within the Leduc Formation.
- Works collaboratively in collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and validating multi-source data and integrating these data and information using Kingdom Geology and Petrel to solve complex and often poorly defined issues rooted in the subsurface.
- Reviews the work or publication materials of other employees as requested by a Team Manager. Provides constructive feedback and mentorship to colleagues and shares information with other staff on topics related to the same area of expertise.
- Accountable for delivering results through publication of technical reports, maps, digital information, and peer-reviewed literature.
- Conducts field work, in a lead or supporting role, to gather information or samples for analysis, or to confirm project findings.
- Provides subsurface geological support and expertise to other branches in the AER through participation in AER projects or upon request.
- 7+ years of relevant industry, academia or government geoscience experience.
- MSc or PhD in geoscience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Devonian carbonate systems though a history of conference presentations and/or peer reviewed publications.
- Experience and knowledge of carbon capture and storage projects and associated challenges is preferred.
- Eligibility for registration as a Professional Geoscientist with APEGA is required.
- Experience using Kingdom, Petrel, WellCAD and ArcGIS is preferred.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork, in a lead or supporting role, with limited direction.
- Strong written and oral communication skills to communicate complex geoscience concepts, practises, or approaches to stakeholders.
- Collaborative team player who values developing relationships and sharing ideas with others.
- Pre-placement Medical required.
- Possess a fully valid class 5 driver's license along with a positive driving record.
- Must be willing to camp in remote locations for up to 2 weeks during field season.
- Required travel between Edmonton and Calgary, on an as-needed basis, for in-person meetings and work at the Core Research Centre and/or Mineral Core Research Facility

Senior Geologist, Carbonates - Hybrid
The Opportunity
The Alberta Geological Survey (AGS), a branch of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), is currently recruiting for a Senior Carbonate Geologist to join a talented group of geoscientists and engineers within the Subsurface Geology and Geohazards team in a limited term, 12-month role. As a Senior Carbonate Geologist, you will be a key contributor to AER/AGS efforts to understand the carbon storage potential of Devonian aquifers through geological mapping and characterization at both a local and regional scale.
The role requires expertise in defining, classifying, and understanding the generation, preservation, geometry, facies, heterogeneity, and architecture of Devonian strata throughout the Province of Alberta. It requires open collaboration, teamwork, and a drive for continuous improvement in all we do.
