Department Information:


Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority - Yellowknife Region (NTHSSA) is one of eight health and social services authorities established by the Department of Health and Social Services in the Government of the Northwest Territories.


NTHSSA - Yellowknife Region delivers and administers Population Health, Primary Health Care and Social Services programs in the communities of Dettah, Fort Resolution, Lutselk'e, Ndilo and Yellowknife.


Our mission is to work with people to optimize wellbeing through the provision of collaborative and culturally appropriate health and social services.


Job Information:

Yellowknife Region LTC/EC is an accredited facility, located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The facility provides care and support to 90 adult residents.


Reporting to the Territorial Specialist, Chronic Disease, the Long Term Care and Extended Care Dietitian provides nutrition care and support to residents of the facility according to established policies, standards, and procedures.

The Dietitian consults with residents, family and healthcare team members regarding the residents' response to the nutrition care plan, and adjusts diet orders and nutrition support regime as required.

The position provides leadership and human nutrition expertise in clinical nutrition.

The incumbent consults and communicates within the interdisciplinary care team and acts as a resource to other health professionals and communities within the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.


The Dietitian builds and maintains a collaborative relationship with the third party food service provider within Yellowknife's Stanton Territorial Hospital to ensure that healthy, acceptable foods are served to residents.


This position may be required to provide coverage for other dietitians within the NTHSSA in person and/or virtually and will provide acute care coverage at Stanton Territorial Hospital.


Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

The successful completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nutrition, and completion of an accredited Dietetic Internship program, or a Master's Degree in Nutrition with Two (2) years of recent experience in acute/ambulatory care.

Current registration with a provincially regulated association of Registered Dietitians is required.

Membership with Dietitians of Canada is an asset.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Proof of immunization in keeping with current public health practices.

Must have authorization to perform restricted activity
- prescribe parenteral nutrition.


NTHSSA has several certifications that are required upon hire, depending on the area where the employee works, including but not limited to: Indigenous Cultural Awareness, Biohazardous Waste, Biosafety & Biosecurity, Infection Control, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and others directly related to the incumbent's scope of practice.
