Working for The Metabolomics Innovation Centre


The Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC) is a nationally-funded core facility that has a unique combination of infrastructure and personnel to perform a wide range of cutting-edge metabolomic studies for clinical trials research, biomedical studies, bioproducts studies, nutrient profiling and environmental testing.

The platform, launched in 2011, is a collaboration between nine of Canada's premier metabolomics researchers across six universities, with the University of Alberta as the lead institution.

TMIC is funded through partnership with the Canada Foundation for Innovation's Major Science Initiatives program and each of the nine researchers' individual discovery research programs, with support from Genome Canada and multiple regional genome centres.


Position
Are you a new graduate from Alberta in Commerce, Business, Marketing or a similar field and looking to showcase your communications, sales, social media and relationship building skills in a high-technology, scientifically driven environment?


As part of its technology commercialization portfolio, and in partnership with Genome Alberta and the Province of Alberta, TMIC is seeking a dynamic and innovative Growth and Outreach Coordinator.

This role is designed for an individual passionate about driving growth in the biotechnology and life sciences industries, technology translation and technical sales.


Duties

  • Assist the Operations Manager, Business Development Analyst, and other TMIC Node Leaders & Node Managers with outreach activities to grow TMIC's commercial opportunities and revenues.
  • Conduct market research to pinpoint potential clients and explore opportunities for research collaborations.
  • Proactively seek and engage clients in TMIC's current areas of strength, for example health sciences and agriculture, to increase TMIC's profile and market share.
  • Support TMIC's social media platforms including LinkedIn, FaceBook, and X.
  • Utilize TMIC's strong online presence to attract and engage potential clients, collaborate with the research team for outreach, and innovate in client acquisition strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Recent bachelor's graduate (April 1, 2022 to present) from an Alberta Post-Secondary in Commerce, Business, Business Administration, Marketing or equivalent required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively present information to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Exceptional customer service and networking skills sales or marketing experience is an asset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong analytical skills to assess trends and identify potential business opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, foster and maintain relationships with internal and external customers.
  • A strong background in making formal and informal presentations.
  • Strong storytelling skills we don't expect you to be an expert in sciences, but can you tell a story out of scientific information in a compelling and inviting way?
  • Ability to construct a convincing business case, express it clearly and gain consensus around decisions, plans and actions.
  • Excellent research skills with strong problemsolving ability.
  • Positive and motivated selfstarter, processoriented with a high attention to detail and sense of urgency.
  • Ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment and work independently.
  • Strong time management, organization and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in design and editing software such as Adobe Photo
