Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years.

With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world.

Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.


Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.


Our Team:

The inventory management team is a critical part of inbound logistics in Canada. The team is composed of eight inventory analysts across Canadian Operations.

We work together as one team to ensure operations have material readily available while also maintaining a healthy stock value in our warehouses.


The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Inventory Analyst, Local to join our Inbound Logistics Department in Sudbury Operations. This position is covered under the Collective Agreement between Vale and the Local United Steelworkers.

Although previous experience in mining or an industrial setting is considered an asset, we also appreciate that diversity of thought comes from our differences - and that's what makes us great


Accountabilities

  • Levels simulation for warehouse inventory planning; data collection using Access tools to gather all simulation inputs, understanding of the inputs is essential.
  • Independent Scenario Analysis; evaluate outputs of the tool, recommend and communicate alternatives. Accuracy and understanding of the data and underlying issues are important factors in making the correct decisions as changes may impact operations.
  • Planning for future inventory requirements; looking forward to anticipate inventory demand anomalies and making adjustments to inventory levels as required. This will require close working relationship with operational areas.
  • Set inventory parameters; based on analysis and recommendations.
  • System maintenance; material master code changes/updates.
  • Create Replenishment requisitions for warehouse inventory demands based on set parameters, taking into consideration anomalies and simulation analysis.
  • Work with operations to analyze inventory for obsolete material, nonmoving reviews, criticality reviews, expense items to inventory and other coordinated initiatives.
  • Investigate inventory replenishment issues identifying gaps and developing strategies to implement new processes, controls or tools; considering each plant's unique inventory requirements.
  • Maintain alignment with Procurement, Warehousing and Operational Partnerships regarding responsibilities/collaborative efforts involving all stakeholders.
  • Innovation and creativity is sometimes required to improve work processes and methods used by the team to improve tight deadlines that we often work with.

Qualifications and Specific Skills:


Education:
Undergraduate Degree or College Diploma preferred in Business related discipline (example Commerce, Engineering/Certified Engineering technologist, Legal). Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) certification is an asset. Certification through Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) is also desirable.


Other Skills:


  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including: Access, Excel, Word, Outlook; Microsoft Project, Power Point, Teams. Working knowledge of Vale Inventory systems including SAP, Oniqua and Klassmatt. Proficiency in generating / analyzing SAP and Business Objects Reports; HP Loadrunner knowledge is an asset.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management and inventory methodologies and principles.
  • Knowledge of Mining, Milling and Refining processes as it pertains to procurement and warehouse operations.
  • Negotiation and project management skills.
  • Communication with the business/suppliers.
