The Opportunity


Columbia College is looking for a
Head of the High School to take over the instructional leadership and administrative management of the North Campus.

The position will start in
January 2024.


The working schedule for this position will be **Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (35 hours per week).


SUMMARY:

The Head of the High School is the instructional leader and administrative manager of the program and is responsible for:

  • Establishing goals and expectations: this includes setting, communicating and monitoring learning objectives, standards and expectations, and staff involvement in the process so there is clarity and consensus about goals.
  • Strategic sourcing: involves aligning resource selection and allocation to priority goals. This includes the provision of appropriate expertise through involvement in staff appointments.
  • Planning, coordinating and evaluating teaching and the curriculum: direct involvement in supporting education through classroom visits and providing formative and summative feedback to teachers.
  • Promoting and participating in teacher learning development: leadership that encourages and directly engages teachers in formal or informal learning.
  • Ensuring an orderly and supportive environment.
  • In addition to leading the High School, the Head of High School is the leader at the North Campus. The Office Manager (OM) at the North Campus reports directly to the Head of High School.
Key Responsibilities

  • Take part in the planning and execution of North Campus Orientation in consultation with Student Services, the Student Life Coordinator, OM, NCA, and the Testing Coordinator; provide feedback at the preand postorientation meetings.
  • Work with the High School Academic Advisors, North Campus Counsellor & Student Life Manager (NCSLM) to support the plan for continuing student registration each semester, including registration times, organizing registration groups, and online and individual registration appointments.
  • Compile the semesterly High School timetable in collaboration with the NCSLM and VP Academic.
  • Create and populate the template with all student programs and courses, track course and graduation statistics, and support each semester's course planning.
  • Go through students' course records at the end of each semester to determine pass/fail rate and assist with organizing replanning of courses prior to registration where needed.
  • Collect and collate statistics and data about where students go after finishing Columbia College High School, and follow up with students about their next steps after Columbia College.
  • Collect and communicate all statistics (percentage of students moving to UT or other institutions, continuation, probation, etc.) each semester to the Recruitment, Admissions and Marketing (RAM)Committee.
  • Prepare updated informational material for marketing purposes, the College calendar, and the website.
  • Work with the College Principal, Director of Finance and other College stakeholders to create short and longterm High School Specific Operational and Strategic Plans.
  • Liaise with the Columbia College homestay coordinator to provide a smooth and safe transition if homestay and custodianship are required.
  • Check and provide input on existing 10, 11 and 12 syllabi.
  • Hire instructors as per the Columbia College Employment Agreement and in conjunction with Columbia College's HR Manager and College Deans where necessary.
  • Provide input on the requirements and hiring of support staff.
  • Conduct a performance review for North Campus staff every two months within the first six months of employment and provide ongoing feedback when appropriate.
  • Keep track of sick/personal business/vacation taken by instructors and office staff in Avanti, HRIS & Payroll system.
  • Listen to instructors' concerns regarding students' behavioural and/or academic issues in class; provide feedback and suggestions when deemed appropriate; and coordinate with the NCSLM to arrange meetings with the students in question.
  • Hold regular meetings with NC Non-Teaching Staff, teachers and Deans as needed or requested.
  • Take part in the High School Probation Committee each semester.
  • Assist new sessional instructors by hosting an introductory meeting on the High School Program and providing ongoing support and mentorship when deemed appropriate.
  • Facilitate and send weekly WAAG (Week At A Glance) to instructors and staff to communicate important events to students
