Job Purpose
The HSE Lead is responsible for the implementation and support of the HSE systems company-wide. The HSE Lead is also responsible to ensure Waiward's Leadership are trained and are ready to safely manage work.


Responsibilities:


  • Displays a commitment to Waiward's incidentfree vision, values, and culture.
  • Supports and assists development all HSE Advisors to the point of competency and marketability by ensuring that all training and development plans are in place and being executed.
  • Leads corporate safety initiatives by positive example.
  • Demonstrates ownership and leadership by actively participating in all phases (inspections, audits, assessments, tours, etc.) of the HSE management plan.
  • Prepares contractspecific Hazard Assessments and safety execution plans in compliance with client requirements.
  • Provides assistance in all precontract, tender assessment and contract administration for projects in relation to HSE requirements and expectations.
  • Approves subcontractor's Safety Management Plans and Safe Operating Procedures before work commences, where required.
  • Monitors key safety performance indicators on various active job sites.
  • Ensures reporting of performance measures by subordinates on a weekly basis.
  • Demonstrates the inclusion of OH&S legislation in preparation of Project Execution Plans, Definition of Objectives and Project kickoffs.
  • Manages third party contractor management programs such as ISNetworld, CanQual etc.
  • Initiates followup on corrective actions from high potential incident investigations.
  • Works with the Director, HSE on the recruitment and selection of all Construction HSE based roles.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant OH&S acts and regulations and provides guidance to project team.
  • Performs regular site visits to ongoing project sites.
  • Liaises with clients, and other OH&S professionals and regulatory authorities.
  • Aids in the development and implementation of emergency response plans for all sites, projects and divisions.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of Waiward's safe work practices and procedures.
  • Ensures Waiward's HSE manual is up to date with current provincial regulations and codes.
  • Collaborates with HSE team to ensure the SLRA and FLRA processes are effective.
  • Works with the HSE and IMS teams to ensure current controlled documentation.
  • Works with the Construction HSE Advisors to provide support when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • OH&S diploma or equivalent, CRSP would be considered an asset with at least five (5) years of construction experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years as an NCSO with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
  • CSTS09/CSTS 2020 & OSSA Regional/BSO/CSO
  • Certifications required for the work being performed (Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry & Monitor, EWP, etc.)
  • Current Class 5 Driver's Licence and a current Driver's Abstract is required
  • Preaccess Alcohol & Drug Testing is mandatory
  • Solid knowledge of investigation techniques (i.e. TapRoot)
  • Basic auditing techniques (i.e. Core / ISO)
  • Solid understanding of regulatory codes
  • Proficient computer skills specifically in Microsoft Office
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize a high workload and demonstrate effective problem solving skills
