Job Summary


The Program Facilitator Job Track project facilitates group-based employment, career and life skills training and provides individualized on-going guidance and support to Job Track project participants.

The focus of the program is to help participants explore the Child Development Practitioner Trade and to support clients in registering for an apprenticeship in this trade.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Develop promotional materials.
  • Outreach to area job seekers and community groups to publicize the project
  • Conducts intake process
  • Establish and maintain relationships/partnerships with employer partners
  • Organize and facilitate workshops using a variety of platforms focused on employment, career, life skills and apprenticeship
  • Provide practical support, guidance and resources to project participants as needed
  • Develop and monitor participant work placements through regular visits to work placement sites within the childcare sector
  • Develop specific resources to support participant learning
  • Collect client information and program data as relevant to the position, contribute to program reporting
  • Contribute, collect and act on information using established communication systems
  • Prepare recommendations with reports and research for program improvements as needed
  • Works as a member of the Centre team and of the project team
  • Participates in team and staff meetings and other Centre committees and activities as required
  • Encourage and support apprenticeship registration for participants and employers

  • Contributing to the Centre's work by participating in meetings and committees.
  • Working during both regular and extended hours of operation in locations identified by the Centre.
  • Contributing to the Centre's practices of hiring, orienting and training of staff.
  • Contributing to the Centre's efforts to secure and maximize resources for current and new programs, services and activities.
  • Participating in the Centre's efforts to enhance its capacity through staff development.
  • Working in a manner that supports the Centre's Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Position Requirements

Education

  • Relevant college or university degree, preferably in social science

Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in employment counseling, job development and employment programming
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to issues facing job seekers with barriers to employment
  • Experience working with diverse population
  • Group facilitation/adult education experience
  • Experience with or knowledge of preapprenticeship and trades in Ontario, especially Child Development Practitioner

Key Competencies

  • Knowledge of issues, trends and legislation in the employment field and the labour market.
  • Proven ability to outreach to, and work with jobseekers employers and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of mentoring and volunteer management principles.
  • Group facilitation experience.
  • Knowledge of community and social service resources, particularly for job seekers.
