Commercial Property Field Adjuster - FT/Permanent - Markham


This role pertains to handling commercial property claims with the ultimate responsibility for the investigation and adjusting of low to moderate Commercial Property claims on the City of Toronto account.

Job Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Unit Manager, Kaylin Yataco
  • Initially working with the senior property adjuster, for training/assisting in the investigation of commercial property claims.
  • Attend scene investigations for loss scoping
  • Ensure appropriate coverage is in place
  • Follow account guidelines and instructions, making contact on files and setting up appointments as required
  • Review files to ensure appropriate time cards are in place
  • Prepare settlement documents, including Proof of Loss documents, Photo PDF, Cheque Approvals/Requests
  • Review initial reports to identify exposures, recommend reserves, recommend investigation required for exposure, prepare action plans, and various related tasks including subrogation recovery review/notice
  • Develop skills necessary to recognize potential for escalation to higher value damages
  • Develop skills necessary to communicate effectively with all levels of client involvement
  • May involved afterhours claims service
  • Provide high level of customer service to the client
Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience
  • CIP Designation
  • Excellent computer skills, including Excel
  • Effective analytical skills including identification of cause and effect dynamics.
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle required
  • Proven investigative manner
  • Ability to read and interpret policy coverage.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to draw valid conclusions and effectively communicate them
  • Proactive and positive approach to customer service ensuring all inquiries are effectively dealt with in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage conflicting priorities in an effective manner
