The Product Owner will report to the Product Owner Lead, responsible for supporting the Global R&D department.
The Product Owner is accountable for the success of their product and the Return on Investment, ensuring that the product vision is met and that development activities are focused on maximizing business value.
In this role, you will identify, define, analyze, prioritize and refine the product requirements for the product(s) you are responsible for and will communicate those requirements to the scrum development teams and wider company and customer stakeholders.
A crucial part of the role is to:
- Gather business requirements for an assigned development project by establishing open lines of communication with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Validate and prioritise requirements having regard to existing commitments, commercial imperatives and product strategy.
- Document and communicate the requirements in accordance with approved methodology (including User Stories with Acceptance criteria). Ensure that requirement and design documents are appropriately distributed, reviewed, discussed, modified, and ultimately approved (where appropriate).
- Deliver a product design that fulfils these requirements in a generic way, which is compatible with demands of other stakeholders, both current and future.
- Represent stakeholders within development team, ensuring that developments meet the business requirement and are fit for purpose.
- Attend all Scrum meetings (Stand-Ups, Sprint Planning, Product Backlog Grooming, Sprint Review, Retrospectives).
- Own the product backlog within a release, prioritise and plan the sprints within the release.
- Develop a deep understanding of the product, the people who use it, how they use it and the benefits they realise from using it.
- Work closely with front line support staff, services and partners, and customers as required, in order to provide a coherent companywide approach and understanding to new features and products as well as help resolve functional issues in a timely and effective manner.
Additionally, this person will be responsible for:
- Assist the development team as necessary in terms of testing fault fixes, customer patches, where there is a high level of complexity
- Identify and report areas for improvement in both software and documentation.
- Assist with Restricted Release Support
- Assist in the testing of new versions of software
- Product backlog is well managed, user stories are of excellent quality and prioritised according to release goals
- Knowledge sharing of domain knowledge and upskilling less experienced members of the team
The role requires an individual with the ability to set and manage priorities judiciously and has experience in working in a software development team.
The role holder will have a good understanding of Agile development methodologies, especially SCRUM, and have strong relationship building skills, including the ability to relate constructively to people at all levels of the organisation.
