Position Summary


The Supervisor, Disability Services inspires excellent delivery of the Sick Leave Support program through promotion of proactive disability case management, recovery/improved health, and timely/safe return to work.

Further they use their strong leadership skills, clinical knowledge, and thorough understanding of claims management in a group benefit setting, to ensure covered members accessing Extended Disability Benefits (EDB) receive the support they need.

They will provide leadership, guidance, coaching and mentoring to adjudicators and case managers to ensure EDB policies are adhered to and that work is done in collaboration with relevant parties such as health care providers, employer groups and member representatives in accordance with ASEBP's unique holistic approach.


Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day leadership, supervision, and performance management within the disability services team. _
  • Supervise team members in a manner consistent with strategic direction and pursuit of operational excellence.
  • Provide regular coaching and mentoring to employees, ensuring they receive timely feedback to maximize their performance.
  • In collaboration with Quality Assurance Advisor, review QA findings to inform performance management.
  • Conduct performance reviews in accordance with ASEBP's performance review process.
  • In conjunction with the manager, participate in recruitment, orientation and training of new employees.
  • In collaboration with the Lead, Disability Services, support ongoing training and feedback to team members regarding organizational policies, team processes and safety protocols.
  • Encourage staff professional development, goal setting and career progression, and identify relevant opportunities.
  • In conjunction with the manager and human resources, address performance and conduct issues.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with members, employer and other stakeholders as it relates to ASEBP disability services._
  • Work with employers and professional associations/unions and health care providers to ensure a shared understanding of the sick leave support, EDB and other relevant programs.
  • Respond to queries and comments with respect to programs, services, policies, and procedures.
  • In collaboration with manager, oversee the creation and scheduling of operational reports, and monitoring of key performance outcomefocused metrics.
  • Respond to queries and comments with respect to programs, services, policies and procedures.
  • Respond to escalated covered member inquiries and employer escalated calls using a solutionfocused approach.
  • Relationship management and participation in working groups with external stakeholders as needed.
  • Collaborate with other business areas to ensure smooth delivery of services, projects and programs.
  • Recommend plan design changes and/or revisions based on observations of internal and external trends, common inquiries/challenges and best practice standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • In collaboration with the manager:
  • plan caseload allocation and coverage in order to best meet team strategies and priorities.
- determine priorities in regard to issues and/or changes affecting the team, program, or covered members.

  • Ensure the team is meeting strategic goals, QA service standards and defined outcome measures.
  • Ensure the team has a consistent understanding of the EDB plan document and that this is reflected in practices and processes
  • Collaboration, teamwork and alignment with DS leadership including Managers, Directors, Quality Assurance Advisor and Practice & Process Advisor.

Your Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five to ten years of previous leadership experience, including experience in change management.
  • Experience working within group benefits in the education sector and or a health & welfare trust considered an asset.
  • Experience in a leadership/team management role, including experience with performance management is required.
A combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Extensive knowledge of principles of disability management preferably in a group benefit setting.
  • Extensive experience in case management and effective use of case management digital platforms.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Transformational leadership skills, including strong emotional intelligence, and the ability to effectively give and receive feedback.
  • Effective at coaching, mentoring and performance monitoring.
  • Experience in monitoring and reporting trends, including identifying relevant opportunities and solutions.
