Youth Support Worker - ICY, 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The current rate of pay is $28.61 per hour.

This 12-month Youth Support Worker participates as a core ICY (Integrated Child and Youth) team member. Drawing on their own lived experience, the Youth Support Worker offers peer-based mentoring and emotional support, and works collaboratively with

youth, their families, and members of the care team.

The Youth Support Worker acts as a role model and helps young people and their families work towards their self-identified goals by supporting them with systems navigation and by connecting them with resources on ICY teams and in the community.


Qualifications:

Grade 12 education supplemented with BC Campus Provincial Peer Training Curriculum and a recognized Peer Support Training Course; two years related experience working with at-risk children and youth with mental health and/or substance use issues; knowledge of systemic issues and risk factors facing minority groups including LGBTQ2S+ and Indigenous youth and young adults, including the ongoing impacts of colonialism; excellent skills in collaboration and consultation; ability to facilitate collaboration among schools and community agencies; demonstrated knowledge and skill working with issues including: mental health,

substance abuse, crisis intervention, trauma informed practice, systemic issues and risk factors facing minority groups including LGBTQ2S+ and indigenous children and youth, including ongoing impacts of colonialism; demonstrated ability to work with


individuals, families, groups, school staff and community partners; familiar with Mental Health resources and supports; ability to respect the confidential nature and protocols of all information relating to students, guardians, teachers and community partners; familiar with the supports and resources provided by local and regional Indigenous community partners; working knowledge of Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, and relevant Microsoft Office Suite programs; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


Duties/Responsibilities:


Duties are performed under the supervision of the District Integrated Child & Youth Counselor and the Director of Instruction - Inclusive Education or designate; Recognizes the characteristics of students at risk or in crisis and offers culturally sensitive preventive and intervention services; Communicates and collaborates with colleagues in the school or in the community at large who perform integrated work within a multi-disciplinary team; works with Teachers and Principals, to support school outcome objectives and goals as they relate to a student's needs, including working a flexible schedule as needed which may include weekends or evenings; is available for crisis intervention when identified as necessary by the ICY Counsellor or Director of Instruction - Inclusive Education; supports the inclusion of students in schools/programs; participates in training opportunities through the ICY team and School District No.

71; participates in team meetings, case reviews and planning conferences; keeps accurate and current case documentation concerning assessment, student goals, service actions and case evaluation as required to fulfil school, and district accountabilities; respects the confidentiality of correspondence and discussion; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
